MKSheppard Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I've begun gathering data for a 1940-1944 campaign which begins just after the BoB has been defeated, and continues up to June 1944, right before D-Day; to take advantage of the EuroWW2 terrain and all the awesome WW2 aircraft floating around. Finding data on the Mighty Eighth is pretty easy; but I'm not so sure about RAF Fighter Command's TOE, or that of the German units facing them. So far this is the data I've found on USAAF Fighter Groups: (dates in parenthesis is when first combat mission was flown) -------------- 4th FG (Eagle Squadrons) --334th FS --335th FS --336th FS Spitfires (October 1942) P-47s (March 1943) P-51s (April 1944) -------------- 20th FG --55th FS --77th FS --79th FS P-38s (December 1943) P-51s (July 1944) -------------- 55th FG --38th FS --338th FS --343d FS P-38s (15 Oct 1943) P-51s (July 1944) -------------- 56th FG -------------- 78th FG -------------- 339th FG -------------- 352nd FG -------------- 353rd FG -------------- 355th FG -------------- 356th FG -------------- 357th FG -------------- 359th FG -------------- 361st FG -------------- 364th FG -------------- 479th FG -------------- 7th PRG --13th PRS --14th PRS --22d PRS --27th PRS (Spitfires and L-5s) ---------- More data to come as I fill them in. +Baltika Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Excellent thinking, and thanks for posting your USAAF info, as I have been trouble tracking that sort of thing down. Full RAF squadron histories right here, down to service dates of each squadron's aircraft & details of movements around the various theatres: http://www.rafweb.org/Menu.htm And here's the link to Michael Holm's excellent site which will provide more info on Luftwaffe units, types in service, commanding officers and wartime bases than you can ever hope to assimilate (believe me, I'm trying ) http://www.ww2.dk/ Good luck with the project. The more WW2 campaigns the better, IMHO. Cheers, baltika Quote
Bulldog Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) The 56th FG flew it's first mission in April 1943, and flew P-47s until the end of the war (source: "Thunderbolt: The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in the European Theater" by Ernest R. McDowell, Squadron Signal Publications, 1998). More when I thumb through this volume a bit more. Another site to complement the one Baltika mentioned concerning the RAF can be found here: http://www.rafcommands.com/home.html Good luck! Edited September 17, 2007 by Bulldog Quote
+Gocad Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I've begun gathering data for a 1940-1944 campaign which begins just after the BoB has been defeated, and continues up to June 1944, right before D-Day; to take advantage of the EuroWW2 terrain and all the awesome WW2 aircraft floating around. The main problem with such a campaign would be that between 1940 (after the BoB was over) and 1943 there wasn't much going on in the skies over western Europe. Most of the German units were sent east or to Italy/Northern Africa (there were just two Luftwaffe units left on the western front) and the bulk of USAAF units didn't arrive until 1943. Quote
Bulldog Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Ok, here's some more info: 56FG 61FS (Squadron code: HV), 62FS (LM), 63FS (UV) P-47 (April 43) 78FG 82FS (MX), 83FS (HL), 84FS (WZ) P-47 (April 43) P-51 (Dec. 44) 352FG 328FS (PE), 486th (PZ), 487FS (HO) P-47 (Sept 43) P-51?(April 44--guessing here) 353FG 350FS (LH), 531FS (VJ), 352FS (SX) P-47 (Aug 43) P-51 (Oct 44) 359FG 368FS (CV), 369FS (IV), 370FS (CR) P-47 (Dec 43) P-51 (May 44?) That's all I had in this book, hope it helps. Quote
+JediMaster Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I believe that's why CFS3, for instance, started in 1943, and even EAW had 2 separate parts--BOB, and then 1943 on. You couldn't fly in 1942 at all in EAW, at least when it came out. I've not kept up with the modding crowd to know if they later put that in. Quote
Okland Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 There were however, the cross channel operations from 41-42. Rhubarb sorties etc. Quote
