NORFOLK

A Navy E-2C “Hawkeye” aircraft, which was making an emergency landing on a

single engine, came down just off a runway this evening. No one was reported

hurt in the aircraft or on the ground.

The aircraft, based at the Norfolk Naval Station, attempted its landing

about 6 p.m. at Chambers Field, the Navy said.

It "was making a single-engine, emergency landing when it landed short of

the runway, collapsing the nose gear," said Lt. Cmdr. Dave Nunnally, an

Atlantic Fleet Naval Air Force spokesman.

Damage to the aircraft, which is assigned to the Tigertails of Carrier

Airborne Early Warning Squadron 125, is being assessed.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
