I am having the "escape key crash" described in the other forum for WoV. I did everything in the other thread that said to do all the way to the bottom where I was directed to the general discussion. My system information:

------------------

System Information

------------------

Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 BIOS: BIOS Date: 02/14/08

Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

DirectX Version: DirectX 10

Radeon HD 2400 XT

Display Memory: 2034 MB

Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (75Hz)

My other computer went feet up, and have had this one a few days.

Thanks.

Pardon me while I think outloud, but, lets see here, pressing the escape key initiates a "controled crash" of the current application, correct? So, when you press the escape key, nothing happens, or is it doing what its supposed to do, but a bit over zealously by causing the application to just disappear without being able to save the current state of said application?

Hmmm,

(please dont yell at me for this unproductive waste of bandwidth, mr moderator) :)

Oh, and I think I see the problem now, your computer has too many processors!!!

Nah, you can never have too many processors (kinda like horsepower...never enough)

His problem is Vista.

Mongoose, you need to disable the terrain shader effects in the terrain's data ini

Extract the XX_terraindata.ini using the cat extractor tool, off somewhere in the d/lds section and follow the instructions here:

Look for the 2 sections below....

[NormalTextureMaterial]

UseEffectShader=TRUE <---This one

EffectShaderName=TerrainEffect.fx

DepthBufferCheck=TRUE

-snip-

[WaterTextureMaterial]

UseEffectShader=TRUE <---and this one

EffectShaderName=WaterEffect.fx

DepthBufferCheck=TRUE

change the UseEffectShader= to read FALSE.

Quick and simple fix. There's more about it in the Knowledge Base, here...

Wrench, this is the only thing in my VietnamSEA.ini, as nothing else is installed:

[Terrain]

TerrainFullName=VietnamSEA

DataFile=VietnamSEA_data.INI

TargetFile=VietnamSEA_targets.INI

TargetTypeFile=VietnamSEA_types.INI

MovementFile=VietnamSEA_movement.INI

NationsFile=VietnamSEA_nations.INI

BriefingText=VietnamSEA_briefing.INI

DogfightFile=VietnamSEA_dogfight.INI

DogfightOnly=FALSE

Longitude=106

Latitude=16

[Map]

FilenameFormat=VietnamSEA_Map%d.bmp

Width=1000000.0

Height=1000000.0

NumZoomLevels=2

?? :dntknw: ??

Maybe from a reinstall and patch it?? What do I need to grab from Thirdwire to get up to date? I have dl these:

WOV_p083006.exe

WOV_sp051506a

Thanks.
