Hey, all.

as most of you know by now, im in Japan...

...so my computer is on just 4 hours ago, and this HUGE storm rolls through...

...the lightning strikes create a power outage on base.

...although my PC is plugged in to a "surge protector", it get ZAPPED in the process...

it has recovered...partially. :sorry:

everything's still there, except when i try to open anything involving multimedia while Windows is in Normal mode...

... i get a crazy looking screen, something like this:

...my mouse cursor freezes, my screen freezes, everything!!! :dntknw:

...it happens at random in Normal mode

I couldn't even access ANY games without it happening...

...so i had to go to safe mode with network to post this...

...at least my mods are safe!

...anybody have a solution?

[i'be tried just about everything for now]

It may not be much help, but I pulled the following off the Nvidia Help forum. ( http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=63736 ) His problems were caused by something else, but seem similar to yours. Hope it helps...

"Widows drivers enable direct 3d n stuff.

your card is no longer able to display direct x properly because it seems to have sufferd an electical failure of some sort.

This is just an oppinion.

and like all oppinions you should feel free to find a second one."

My guess would also be the video chip/components were somehow fried. Being in Windows you're in 2D mode and it's fine, but anything requiring 3D mode or advanced acceleration capabilities causes it to fritz out. My feeling is that if it's not under warranty (which won't help you much being out of country anyway), you are shafted!

Tried everything, you say? Did you have a priest come in and preform an exorcism? Did you douse it in holy water?

I had the same kind of look on the screen when I tried to run fraps, which took wayyy too much ram when combined with SF. Maybe the power outage somehow fried the ram chips on your computer or something in the graphics card...?

Just a thought.

...wel, ya'll... :sorry:

...i've finally come to realize that while my basic display properties are fine, my AGP iz totally fried... :dntknw:

...no more playing Strike Fighters for a WHILE.... :dntknw:

...tried installing XP over Vista...

thanks to the fact that XP setup doesn't recognize SATA hard drives...

...ended up accidentally installing XP on my flash drive...

and TOTALLY erasing my MODS!!! :shok:

...at least older versions of them are already further backed up on CD's... :good:

...guess i'll start over again lol

...i haven't taken my mind off the Rhino skins, while i can still make them, I just can't preview them in-game for now... :dntknw:

ALL IS NOT LOST!!!

...plannin on goin to Akihabara soon...

...just can't go today, everything's closed for Bon Odori....
