F/A-18 Hud problem

when i fly the F-18, i get this giant white box in the center of the screen on the cockpit and then my game lags like crazy and the fps drops to like 2 or 3.

this only seems to happen if i have the Cockpit texture settings set to High, and it only happens with the F/A-18A

if i switch back medium, then the white box goes away

any ideas what is causing it? i tried a fresh reinstall of the plane and that didnt seem to do anything.
