I notice that on all the B-52s I downloaded, there is no capability of inert (or internal bomb bay storage) of nuclear weapons. I have the 2.52 Weapons pack, and have modified the weapons racks in the Data file including the bombay to support all bombs categorized under NUC.

Any ideas or is anyone experiencing the same?

I should also make note that ALL nuclear ordinance is set on very common. They appear on the external racks...just not the internal.

Could be the allowed weight or length as much as the class, at least that was what I forgot to check when having problems with the Blue Steal not showing up on the Vulcan, it was the last thing I thought to check after the nation, weapon class, weapon lod, service dates etc.

I thought about internal load too, but there's 27 500 pound bombs that show up in there. I don't think the load is the issue. Service dates and the proper designations of NATO, USAF and USN are checked off in the editor too. It's really weird...

Ah but I think that the max length and diameter limits refer to each individual weapon rather than the whole lot.

Just found these lines in the old version B-52D

DiameterLimit=0.4

LengthLimit=2.2

I would suggest a length limit of 8 if you want cruise missiles and that and a diameter up to about 2? Values are in metres but I wouldn't know what the real capacity of these things is, never seen one that close, I'm sure someone here will know.

One problem I noticed is loadout of nukes on BUFF's.

The loadout differed during the Cold War era, to include but not limited to two large diameter bombs in the bay, or a large diameter bomb and 2 Hound Dogs on wings, or

a clip-in of Mk28's, 43's, or 61's along with Hound Dogs (or Quails internal).

When SRAM came along, the loadout could be a single bomb, or a clip-in and a rotary launcher of 6 SRAMS. SRAM's could also be mounted externally on the wings of B-52's. The loadout varied according to the mission.

Then of course there's ALCM and ACM, the Common Strategic Rotary Launcher, etc.

Dave,

Much radiation I have absorbed!

Here's a great vid of nuke delivery, compliments of the 379th BMW, Wurtsmith AFB-

The same series has conventional delivery also.

379TH BW Wurtsmith AFB, Oscoda, Mi. We were stationed there twice. From 1981 to 1983 and from 1988 to 1991. Met Sheila (my wife) and went to high school there from part of my freshman year to middle of my senior year. (The 2nd time we were there.) Then my dad got orders to Elmendorf. My in laws still live in Oscoda.

Reason you look like Yoda you do? :lol:

Could they really make it far away enough from the ordinance dropping from that height?

I don't think it matters much if the a/c or crew survives if we have reached that level of conflict.

Well I guess the chances of making it back to base would be virtually nill but if they carried so many nukes it seems like they intended to drop more than just the first one, I just assumed that you would need to be going supersonic to outrun the mach Y stem let alone the radiation. Only thing I can guess is they were on a delay fuse.

I think those tests were more about ensuring the parachutes worked. Not actual combat approaches. Notice how the cameraman focused on the parachutes opening fully before they switched to watching the bomb itself .I would imagine they would fly much higher if they were dropping the real thing.

Seen. Would have been cool though. :blink: Probably the wrong word, I mean cool in the sim world to have been able to pickle nukes from that low.

A timer.

Fuzing and Delivery Mode

In flight fuzing and yield selection merely by turning a dial. Full fuzing options (FUFO): high or low speed delivery, high altitude or low altitude (release heights as low as 50 ft.). Current mods have five fuzing options:

Free fall air burst (high altitude only)

Parachute retarded airburst (high or medium altitudes)

Free fall contact burst (high or medium altitudes)

Parachute retarded contact burst (high or medium altitudes)

Parachute retarded laydown delayed surface burst (delivery altitudes up to 5000 feet), 31 and 81 sec delays available

The Mod 11 has a special ground impact time delay feature to allow it to penetrate into the earth before detonating.

Delivery accuracy <600 feet.

Very interesting! I wonder if that can me modded somehow, I'm almost sure delay fuse option has never worked with the weapon editor?

Clever that some dug into the ground though, I suppose too easy for airbase defences to blast at it with heavy machine gun if it was laying over ground. This has given me the urge to fly nuclear Buff now!
