Claim report question

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did try to search but didn't find anything.

And now the question: does it matter if I use the metric system when writing my claim reports? So far I've only flown as either Americans or British, but now I have two careers going, one for the French and the other for the Germans, and I like to use the metric system like the real pilots of those countries would have done. (I mean, the French invented the whole system, no way in hell are they going to use any system of British origin! )

So should I use metres or feet or does it matter at all? ("Encountered enemy aircraft at an altitude of 10 000 feet" or "3000 m"?)

PS. I really like this claim business. It's exciting to write those short stories, even if no one else besides me ever reads them!

I'm gonna guess that since the game was designed by/for a primarily American audience that using 'feet' for altitude is probably just fine. but, I could be wrong, I've never had a claim verified cuz I always get killed before that happens.

I like to use metres for my German pilots - it just sounds neat. :grandpa:

I'm just thinking there must some "magic words" the game searches from the claim forms and that the more it finds them, the better chances there are for a positive outcome. It probably recognizes feet and other similar words, but I don't know about the metric system. The whole process is somewhat mysterious, but seems to work well - at least I was able to get several accepted kills as my British and American pilots.

I'll have to test this some more and write some reports using feet and some using metres. Like Waldemar pointed out, pilots do have a tendency to die before the claims are verified!

In any case, a great game and a great kill reporting system. :ok:

I'm not sure what wording the claim should have. What information needs to be supplied, and what doesn't?

Somebody want to post a simple claim that is proven effective?

Pol recently said somewere, that the claim report relates to rather few data (if I understood that right).

So, I assume, you could write it very plain and short, like: "Craft hit and destroyed at 08:15 h south-west of Douai."

or "SPAD XIII hit with 200 rounds, plane crashed about 11:14 h near Brayelles airfield." If you add more, it should

be data "known" to the sim; like altitude, waypoint, direction. For me, such short reports worked and got confirmed.

As the sim is in English, I can't imagine it a good idea, to write the report in German.

But you could do this check: switch the instruments (like altimeter) to German version, and press "Z" ingame.

Red text with data appears. If they are still in English, you should better use "feet/miles" etc. than "Meter/Kilometer".

But that's just my idea of it, off course.

Yes, like Olham wrote, claims don't have to be very long-winded in order to get confirmed kills. I like to write longer stories, so what I do is what I imagine real pilots did in the same situation, ie. describe the action as accurately as possible and then hope for the best. Both approaches seem to work well, so there's no need to write terribly long reports if you don't want to do so.

Olham: I think it'd be a great method of failing all of your claims if you used German in them! Aber OFF spricht kein deutsch... Sehr Schade!

Yes, it would be a great addition, if the German pilots could write reports in German.

Maybe, many or them round here are not too confident with their English.

That's why I made the hint to just fill in basic data, without the prose.

Perhaps, in a later Version 4 or 5, it may be possible to add.

In that case, I offer my help for all German text bits and data to Winder & team;

and I would believe, Wels (former Catfish) would join in, too. Just an offer.
