February 14, 1917-Close air support-Jasta 11-flight lead+4-Albatros DIII(early) realism-120% Patch 1.28a Hardcore DM

I won't go through the dogfight because it all happened so fast I hardly remember it. We came upon a flight of eight DH2s. I ended up claiming 4 (mission review said 5) and two fell within 100 yards of each other. That was the most memorable part of the whole mission. I shot down one DH2 and looked to my left and saw another coming toward me about 150f-200ft below. I pushed the stick to the left and kicked left rudder hard and my Albatros responded like it was on rails. I had him in my sights for just a split second and fired a short burst (review said 6 rounds). To my surprise he snap rolled and spun in, hitting the ground about 100 yards from the previous kill.

The RFC lost all eight DH2s and we lost one Albatros.

Well, no surprise there really. There should only ever be one winner in a dogfight between a bunch of DIII's and DH2's

Yeah, four kills (5 by the mission review) in three minutes, and especially when the kills were made with only 65 hits. One with a 6 round burst! I came home with 75% of my ammunition load.

Hahaha!! I think, I would have looked for more fools to down with so much ammo!

You must have hit the right parts like aileron cables.

I had that with SPADs twice - they rolled over like a washing machine drum, and

pulled hard into the mud. Always a great show to watch!

More likely he punched a few holes right through the geezer behind the stick. :clapping:

Hi, Siggi - you may be right there. I always try not to think about hitting the pilot.

After all, he would be as much a young man with so much to yet experience, and some mother's son; as I was.

I'd be most lucky, if everyone would make and survive crash landings; just to be able to jump into another

crate and try it again (as we can do). Well, at least for the aces, that is so.

Hey, Rickity - no one said, TrackIR would make it easier. It's just more immersive.

But you can also get lost in so much to see now.

Take care!

I made my own version of "Bloody April" some 15 minutes ago, in 1916.

Our flight two consited of 4 Albatros DII. Right after take off, I spotted

5 FE2b from RFC-11, and 2 BE2c from RFC-8.

We climbed up to them, while they seemed to approach our home field.

It was like shooting ducks with a pumpgun. Within 4 minutes, I had four

of the FEs down. I got hit myself, but not badly.

What a satisfying way to end this day!
