themightysrc 5 Posted April 7, 2009 Hi All, Here's a bizarre one. I've been enjoying the range of sounds in OFF since I loaded it, and whilst it still gives me the legendary OBD 'miaow!' and a drum roll when I fire the beast up, I find that I've lost in the in-sim (in-flight) sound. I haven't changed any sound settings in Workshop, my sound card's unaltered, nothing's fallen out and clearly I'm getting sounds on start up. Can any kind soul suggest what the problem is? Is there anything in the files that I can amend by hand? Thanks, Si
themightysrc 5 Posted April 7, 2009 Is everyone stumped, or is the answer so obvious that I qualify for remedial care?
sitting_duck 3 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) going to assume you have done all the obvious (ie workshop, sound settings) if you disabled sound in overides,,you get the meow, and the drums etc, but no sound in the game. and, this is just a guess, it has solved some pretty quirky problems in my game go to c:\documents and settings\administator(this is where it is on mine,,,it might be under your username on yours)\application data (appdata if you are running vista)\microsoft\cfssww1 overflanders fields, find the uisel.xml, and copy it to a safe place, This is just a safeguard, you can delete this file, and when you start off it will regenerate the file. now delete it, and restart your game. there is a sound on setting in there, so who knows, it might fix the problem. like i said,,,just a guess Edited April 7, 2009 by sitting_duck
Schnitzel von Krumm 0 Posted April 7, 2009 Not sure if this is the same situation that you're having, but now and again when I start the game, I get sound as far as the "Contact . . Clear" then the game goes silent once things actually start up. I accidentally learned that if I alt-tab a time or two on the keyboard, it clears the problem. I have no idea why. I'm guessing it's a Vista thing. I also have a USB sound system (a good quality DAC with headphone amp for music) as well as the onboard sound on my motherboard for everything else, so there could be some conflict there. Who knows. Good luck.
themightysrc 5 Posted April 8, 2009 Schnitz and SD, thanks for the replies. I had a good trawl through the setup in the CFS config last night - even though I'd changed nothing there for some time - and found that the in game sound option had become unchecked for some bizarre reason. That was weird enough, but I've also found that for no apparent reason, my FPS rate has leapt from about 10-11 to about 20-22 without any intervention or alteration by me. moreover, I've found that I'm now getting some effects, such as pilot redout, which i've never witnessed before. I'd simply assumed it wasn't part of the game. So thanks for the advice. in the end, it was the obvious and easily rectified, but I'm still mystified as to why it changed in the first place, and equally baffled as to why I'm now getting these pleasing improvements in BH&H! Still can't shoot for toffee, mind.
rabu 9 Posted April 8, 2009 I had a similar problem, when changing from outside to CP view, the engine sound would get way to loud. Then, when I changed my acceleration stick lever to off and back on it would change back to the interior engine sound level. It turned out to be the sound card drivers. When I updated them the problem disappeared. I have an older SB Audigy 2 ZS
godzilla1985 0 Posted April 8, 2009 I have experianced something along the same lines. It happens in QC and if I select a starting mission position at anything but on the airfield. For example if I start the mission at 5,000ft the game loads, but does not show the screen with the three pilots. Next thing I know I'm at 5,000 ft with no sound. I cannot exit the game except for having to ctrl-alt-delete several times. then before I can start a new mission I have to reload my Saitek X45 drivers because my Vista control panel is saying I have no joysick activated . I'm really at a loss as to what is going on here, but being I mostly play campaigns I just have ignored it for now. One side benefit is it has made me very proficent at scramble missions
