Random QC Enemy Aircraft choice?

Recommended Posts

I know that new features for P3 are done, but I'll throw this out anyways because maybe it wouldn't be too challenging to do. Would it be possible to add "Random Enemy Aircraft" type to the QC pulldown menu of who you will fight against? And if you could put Random Number of Wingman (0 to 5) in there too, it would just plain be awesome! Then you get the extra thrill of not knowing what type of planes you will be flying against or how many until they show up on the horizon. Last but not least (do I hear Winder getting a real gun and loading it?), maybe a Random Altitude for the EA from 2,000 feet below what you select up to 2,000 feet above. That way sometimes they are diving on you, sometimes you get to dive on them and sometimes it's a head on rush.

Imagine a lone wolf patrol (for example) in QC could result in 6 Albatross DVIIs diving down on your SE5a from 2000 feet above. Or you diving down on a pair of DR 1s you spotted below you. Or a head on assault by 3 Albatross DIIIs. Every QC would be a suprise if the player decided to select Random EA, Random # of Wingman and Random EA Altitude Difference.

I know Winder and the rest of the Devs are going to kick me off the boards and come to my house and steal the game back for bringing this up, but if it wouldn't be too difficult to code, I think it will really add a huge amount of replayability due to unpredicability in QC mode. I guess first and foremost is the question "How hard would it be to code that?" If it wouldn't be too terribly bad, does anyone else who flies QC think it would be a worthwhile addition? I'd literally be willing to pay money to have those options coded into QC mode. Obviously, the ability to choose the EA, number of Wingman and Altitude specifically would remain. These would just be additions to the existing menu selections.

I really don't mean to sound facetious (or sarcastic :diablo: ) but what you're describing is (exactly) a campaign mission. They are very random (within the confines of the units historically based in that area).

Why so many players appear to fly only QC missions is a mystery to me. The real strength of OFF is the campaign. I just use QC as a practice arena.

But I guess that's the good part of having so many choices...

Still, what you're suggesting is something we already have.

Indeed that is true, except sometimes you have try and live through several long ground based attack missions or balloon busting missions before you get another "patrol". And then there is no guarantee you'll run across EA close enough to get into a furball with. QC is just straight Plane vs Plane dogfighting that immediately tests your skills without taking off, warping and hoping you'll eventually run into some EA close enough to duel. Don't get me wrong, the campaign is absolute genius. It's deep, well crafted and amazing in every way. But it is a bit time consuming. QC is about immediate combat gratification (or frustration) whenever you have 5 spare minutes and want to be sure you're going to spend the vast majority of it fighting for your life while trying to rack up some kills. With a busy home life, a lot of times 5 - 10 minutes is all you get. IF it isn't too hard to add in a few Random settings in QC, it would be a very, very cool thing.

Originally that was the intent of QC, an area where you could 'Hone' your existing skills, or develop new ones. When QC became boring and predictable, you would advance into campaign. But everything has been improved to such a level, many never leave QC.

We must pay a price to play campaign, among them, you can't load-out with the WWII Rockets, unless balloons are assigned to you.

And if QC encounters had the option to be randomized, it would be a long, long time before anyone found them to be predictable or boring, thus extending the play life of the game for a very long time. OFF BHaH is of course already a fantastic value. It is by far my favorite game! If indeed it is true though that many people never leave QC (or like myself, come back to it for quick WWI doghtfighting fixes or due to time constraints), then maybe 3 added menu choices to increase the unpredictability would be worthwhile, presuming they weren't difficult to code.

Well, as my Jewish grandmother used to say about her chicken soup (Jewish penicillin):

"It couldn't hurt."

:good:

I like the idea of random settings, too, but probably not available until OFF 4, Between Heaven and Hell: My First Marriage.

I'd take 'em if I could get 'em, but for the moment I'd like QC to automatically send in another batch after I shoot down the first.

Might you add unlimited ammo to that sandwich ?? . . .

QC already has unlimited ammo. And unlimted fuel. My plate is full. My tank runneth over.
