Perhaps we will get an "Archive of Ace skins", where everyone can look and identify the guy, that just brought him down? We could also list victories, squadrons/Jastas, and time of death - researchable at the Aerodrome. I'll start with three aces from Jasta 2 "Boelke" in March, 1917. 1. Albatros DIII early - Werner "Bubi" Voss - 48 victories - KIA 23. September 1917 (KG 4, Jasta 2, 5, 10, 14, 29) 2. Albatros DIII early - Adolf Ritter von Tutschek - 27 victories - KIA March 1918 (FA 6, Jasta 2, 12, JG II) 3. Dej 17 Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) Well, this thread will be so full of Albatri - they're such pretty birds to paint - it'll be like Olham's pin-up corner Here's three of my favourites: Albatros DVa 1917 - Kurt Monnington - 8 victories - Died 17 February 1939 (FA62, Jastas 15, 18) Albatros DVa 1918 - Helmut Dilthey - 7 victories - KIA 9 July 1918 over Lille (FA 50, Jastas 27, 40) Albatros DVa 1917 - Georg Strasser - 7 victories - Died 4 September 1925 (FA 44, FEA 3, Jasta 17) - that little bit of lettering is spot on Of these I've always loved Monnington's paint scheme ever since I tried to paint it on an Airfix model as a teenager - it was a real treat to find it so brilliantly done in BHaH. And I'm chuffed that all the 'lesser' aces are in here too, not just the headliners, not just the most well known paint schemes. But I just thought about another thread about skins, where everyone could and should post. Today I enlisted in Jasta 26, Colmar, Februar 1917. Didn't know, I had to fly with "Bigmouth Mueller" there. But there's also Fritz "Pastor" ("priest") Loerzer, who is okay. Loerzer's craft looks identical to Goerings, by the way, so I don't show it here. I would appreciate much, if you all would post here now. Thanks all. OvS - is it possible to move posts from my other thread to here? That would be a good solution, I think. Before I leave it as dry as it sounds so far - I'll post my old Albatros DII skin here, which I use in my new Jasta 26, in Colmar, February 1917. Charles Dawson Booker - 29 Victories - Naval 1, 8, 5W (RNAS), 201 Squadron (RAF) - DoW 13/08/1918 On 11 August 1917, Booker scored his 21st victory when he and William Jordan shot down an Albatros D.V piloted by Adolf von Tutschek. Moments later, Booker was shot down by Viktor Schobinger of Jasta 12. He landed safely behind British lines. Flying a Sopwith Camel, Booker shot down three Fokker D.VII aircraft on 13 August 1918 but died from wounds received the same day when he was shot down by Ulrich Neckel of Jasta 12. Their aircraft and paintings will be shown in a single post for each ace, instead of all over the place. So, some skins may appear again; but I want to present them complete. He was wounded in action over Roulers on 20 September 1917. After scoring his 54th victory, he collided with Leutnant Alfred Wenz of Jasta 11. Both men jumped from their planes, but Löwenhardt was killed when his parachute failed to open. He was called a "Balloon Buster", but among his 54 kills where dangerous opponents like these: 3 Bristol F2b; 3 S.E.5a; 13 Sopwith Camel; 15 SPAD Information data from "The Aerodrome" ( www.theaerodrome.com ) - I really recommend that site to all aviation fans. Killed during a legendary dogfight with seven S.E.5as, Werner Voss drove two planes to the ground and damaged the rest before his silvery blue Fokker DR.I was shot down by Arthur Rhys Davids. "I shall never forget my admiration for that German pilot (...). His flying was wonderful, his courage magnificent and in my opinion he is the bravest German airman whom it has been my privilege to see fight." Sent back to Germany to recover, he was deemed unfit for further service. He then transferred to the German Air Force, eventually becoming the highly decorated commander of Jagdgruppe 7. He was injured in a crash on 2 February 1918. Thuy survived the war but died in an aircraft accident while training pilots for the Luftwaffe in 1930.
