Recommended Posts

the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), intercepted and forced landing of a single-engine airplane loaded with cocaine on a track of land next to Izidrolândia (RO) in Wednesday.

After landing, the Military Police, in coordination with the Federal Police, seized 176 kg of cocaine paste. The suspect aircraft, originating in Bolivia, flew at an altitude of 500 meters has been identified as illegal by the traffic-control.

According to FAB, after being intercepted by a A-29r, the pilot did not provide identification or information about which path to follow. Moreover, he maneuver toward the border with Bolivia.

Therefore, the A-29 made the warning shot. It was from that as the suspected pilot of the aircraft turned "collaborative" and informed the military, asserting that it would not comply with the orders. However, without authorization, precipitated the plane landed and the landing on a dirt road in the district of Izidrolândia.

At dawn this Friday, an operation of the Federal Police and Civil Police managed to capture the two Bolivian Pilots. According to the Federal Police, they provide evidence in the police post at Pimenta Bueno and would be arrested in the city to await trial.

oh s**t, i didn't knew that

i didn't mentioned, but this was the first FAB warning shot experience, but this doesn't means all intercepted planes were collaborative....usually those drug smuglers put children on the plane, and we can't do nothing...

btw, 2 months ago a mad man hijacked a small cessna...he was intercepted, but didn't got shot because he was with his daughter in the plane...he crashed near the main enter of a mall here...almost killed somebody else.

EDIT:i remember something like that, but in Cuba....IIRC one fulcrum splashed with no mercy a civil plane from a NGO that helps refugees....

Nice to see them catching the drug dealers. Interesting seeing a Tucano engaging an air target.

Yes, that's true but it wasn't just us alone. AFAIK there were CIA/DEA liaison officers involved in drug interdiction missions and they were the ones who determined it was a drug plane when in fact, it wasn't. There were also severe communication problems between the liaison officer and his translator and Peruvian military personnel and clear violation of rules of engagement - the small plane was engaged without warning shots being fired first or even radio contact or visual gestures to the pilot ever performed - that resulted in the death of a female missionary and her child and other passengers being injured.

The CIA/DEA officers where the ones in charge of calling the shots, they incorrectly identified the aircraft as a valid target and authorised Peruvian Air Force aicraft to shoot it down. The CIA even covered up those facts to prevent reaction from the US Congress against joint anti-drug operations in South America.

I don't speak Portuguese but when the HUD shot comes into view, you can hear the Brazilian Air Force pilot speaking in Spanish to the small plane pilot, he's saying: "intercepted aircraft, CP1424, you are disregarding instructions from the air defence. The aicraft flying alongside yours is armed and has authorisation to use its weaponry in order to make you comply with the orders you've been given. Look out for warning shots (...)". And then, he fires two bursts of cannon fire...

yea, I remember all that too. YOu are quite right, it was a lot on our heads as well.

just serves to underscore how things can spin out of control when you go hunting drug runners with a "shoot them out of the sky" ROE.
