Launchbury 1 Posted June 24, 2009 Have a look at these and tell me they don't bring back some serious memories: Just the best damn intro music ever. :)
HomeBoy 1 Posted June 24, 2009 Wow! I remember Red Baron looking SOOOO much better than that! :) If I had seen OFF back then I would have thought I'd died and gone to heaven!
Olham 164 Posted June 24, 2009 (edited) What a way such sims and the vid cards have made! By the way, some of the BHaH devs had also been devs of "Red Baron 3D" - as far as I know. Wasn't OvS one of them - oh, my brain - scrambled eggs! Edited June 24, 2009 by Olham
Rickitycrate 10 Posted June 24, 2009 What a trip! Fond memories. To think how far things have come. Good memories. I enjoyed Wings on AMIGA a great deal too.

Funny you should say that, because that video shows exactly how Red Baron looked on my machine. I believe it was upgraded some time after that, as I went to my friend's house one day and he had the newer version and it sure looked sweet!

Launchbury 1 Posted June 25, 2009 No, it was the same game but it looked better, though I'm not sure why.
rabu 9 Posted June 25, 2009 Thank you, thank you! Watching the Wings of Glory brought back such good memories of that game. The music, the voices of the squad members.. it all came back to me. Do you remember Celeste? (I think that was here name) she was the one that was actually a spy. Isn't it amazing how pixilated those look now and how our brains would fill in the lack of details? Just amazing stuff, thanks!

I believe it was upgraded some time after that, as I went to my friend's house one day and he had the newer version and it sure looked sweet! No, no. Sorry. You missed my point. That's exactly how it looked on my computer too. I just "remember" it looking really good because prior to this time (~1991), flight simulator games were mostly wireframe vector graphics. This looked FANTASTIC compared to that! It's a bit shocking seeing it now and trying to remember how I saw it then. That very Red Baron game was what hooked me on computer flight games, an affliction I have yet to recover from! It really had a lot going for it. The graphics and flight model were very basic but the historical aspects of the game were very well designed and lots of effort was put into that game. The software manual was wonderful. I printed it off and have it right here on my bookshelf. Still get that thing down and read it from time to time. Of course then, RB2 then RB3D came out some years later and raised the bar by a whole bunch. Still, RB1 was a great game for its time.
Launchbury 1 Posted June 25, 2009 Do you remember Celeste? (I think that was here name) she was the one that was actually a spy. Lissete. I was a very young boy and I recall that at that time I was rather taken with her brown-haired, green-eyed 256-colour beauty. I was rather upset when she was shot, as she was rather nice to have around.

UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted June 25, 2009 I just ordered Strike Commander from Ebay..... The Origin series really were cutting edge at the time!...And I fancy some nostalgia!
Mr. Lucky 0 Posted June 25, 2009 One of the things I particularly liked about Red Baron was the enclosed map and ability to navigate by it. That was about the time I started my second round of flying lessons and soloed. UK, I really likes strike commander. The stories and the management aspect were very interesting. I would like to see something like that in WWI also with today's technology. The main complaint I had with Strike Commander is that the missiles slways seemed to miss and every battle devolved into cannon dogfights. I also really liked the jeep you drive into town.
