sitting_duck 3 Posted July 4, 2009 Had to do a complete reinstall,,,os and games,,,and was dissapointed to see fps sitting at about 15-20. adjusting sliders, and settings inpromves things slightly, but not to the level i should be gettting 3.16 e8400 8gig ram atir4870, so it should be better than that.. But game visually was playing great, so assumed it was just an error in what it was reporting to me... Was messing around in fraps, so had hud and labels etc off,,and noticed i was back up to 60's if i looked left or right,,,(plane out of view), and mid 40s looking at my 12... Fiqured out that if i look left with hud off,,ill get 60fps, but if i turn hud on it drops to 30...(we are talking about 3 lousy guages and that blue ammo, throttle thing) and if my fraps display says 40 fps and i hit the z key they drop about 15fps to 25fps... Ive heard that turning off labels will help your fps, but have never seen the hud cause a 50% drop......and had no idea the z key was a fps killer ... was wondering if anyone else sees the same types of drops with the hud,,or the z key.. +Polovski 460 Posted July 5, 2009 Never seen more than about 2 fps drop with Z key. Maybe check other things like your AA settings or ATI config (see tips page?).
DukeIronHand 8 Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) I have a pretty good machine also and am not happy with my FPS either though I am still playing with my settings. Only oddity is that when looking down into the cockpit (with the settings recommended in the FAQ) I got the lowest FPS of all. Traditionally looking into the cockpit of a A/C gives me the highest FPS (in all other sims) so I found this strange. Especially as WW1 A/C cockpits ain't all that complicated. Just configured AlacrityPC and I am still playing with the other settings so I am hoping to get squared away so I can do some serious campaign flying. Is there a way to get back the default settings (from, I think its called the "CFS3config" screen) so I can goof worry free? Edited: Spelling... doh Edited July 5, 2009 by DukeIronHand

sitting_duck 3 Posted July 5, 2009 Pol, before i found out what was killing my fps, i did run thru all my settings, and no one, or combination of settings helped, but, i was using the Z key to see my fps,,, here are some pics to show you what is happening. And as i was putting up some of these noticed that my guages are transparent, not sure if they have always been like that. It also dawned on me that i should see what the effect of dropping out one or two gauges, and was kinda astonished to see that dropping ALL of them out, (ie,,,the hud only gives me that blue info screen with rounds,,,throttle), the hud button still kills the fps by 50% looking left,,no hud,,no z,,,,getting 60fps now i kick in the hud, with no guages,,,,fps drops to 30 now i keep the hud on, and hit z key,,,fps drops even more Looking front, no hud, no z key,,,fps about 30 Hit the Z key, and fps drops almost 40%, to 17 picture of transparent hud gauges (dont think they have always been transparent,,but could be wrong) fps before hitting hud here was 60 Its worth noting that Ive played off3 on a slow computer that could only muster low 20fps, and it showed in the game play,,,,I never see any difference in the game on my new computer with these low frame rates,,,but they didnt drop down like this before I had to reinstall everything, and the hud shoud not be causing the fps display to sink like it is,,or the z key for that matter... sitting_duck 3 Posted July 5, 2009 The http://www.com-central.net CFS3 page is quite a gold mine! Will any of these tweaks (meant for stock CFS3) break anything in OFF? well,..some of them just dont apply,,,and they will be obviouse,,(clouds tweaks and such) but,,the cfs3config settings are the same for cfs3 as they are for off,,,,, If you compare the settings from com cental, and the off site,,you will notice some differences,,,especally in the texture info settings,,,so might be worth your time to try then from one site,,,then switch over to the settings on the other site,,,and see if you can distinguish a difference,,,,
DukeIronHand 8 Posted July 5, 2009 ,,the cfs3config settings are the same for cfs3 as they are for off,,,,, Those are the ones I meant. The max FPS thing looks like a good one among others.
