Uriah 1 Posted July 17, 2009 I installed OFF3 and did mulitplayer. I did not like it, behaved just like CFS3 in that regard. Has there been any improvement? I can forgive all else.

Winston DoRight 3 Posted July 17, 2009 IMHO, OFF multiplayer is quite problematic. It seems with each wonderful improvement made to create OFF, little or no testing was done with multiplayer and now the problems are many and perhaps deep inside the code. Actually CFS3 and the ETO mod play quite nicely online, but the "level of detail" of those cannot match OFF. We have asked the devs to look into several multiplayer issues, but it's possible that the major problems cannot be solved at this point. Some of the nasties are: 1. Engine smoke exiting at strange and unrealistic angles. 2. Jumping, jittering and warping of enemy aircraft in dogfight and mission modes. 3. Selecting certain aircraft crash the MP session, or are invisible when playing. The focus of the OBD team when producing OFF was and still is single player. It's possible that some multiplayer fixes will be done, we can only hope. Frankly I'll never be satisfied with OFF multiplayer unless item 2 in the list above is fixed. Actually I'd celebrate if that and only that was fixed as it's the most annoying of all the issues. Again, these are my personal opinions. There are several members here that participate in our regular online sessions. All have experienced these problems and I'm sure have their own opinions on what is important to them and what it would take to make MP a pleasant experience instead of an exercise in frustration. sitting_duck 3 Posted July 18, 2009 Uriah, i am going to assume you tried dogfight. Granted, there are some promlems with dogfighting in mp, but for all intentional purposes, they do not exist in mission multiplayer. Belive there is a sunday mission planned. Uriah 1 Posted July 19, 2009 It is 'Jumping, jittering and warping of enemy aircraft in dogfight and mission modes.' And yes it was dogfighting which is what I like best and usually only what I have time for. The OFF team were clear in that they did not advertise OFF 3 as an online game and even offered to refund my money. I declined only because they did such nice work and I want to support such developers. First Eagles was good with dog fighting but had some major coop online mission issues. Regardless, FE died as an online game. I am looking to RoF but it to has online issues so for me it may die too. I must say OFF team did a bang up job on atmosphere. Wish it was in RoF. I have been flying flight sims since 1984. In my humble opinion, the longevity of a flight/combat simulation is directly related to it's multiplayer function. Single player campaign missions are fun and amazing but after awhile, there is ultimately something lacking. That "something" is the interaction of another human pilot making snap decisions and forming strategy, all the while interacting with fellow pilots by speaking to them in real time on Teamspeak. Just my opinion but this is a formula that works and has worked for a long time. OFF is a great simulation that could be made historic and even more popular by ironing out a few small bugs in the multiplayer gameplay.
