Stahlgewitter - Thunder of Steel

Recommended Posts

You wonder, why you hear terrible artillery noise all the time?

Perhaps you had no idea, what calibres they used in the first world war?

Here are two German guns.

"LANGER MAX" (right picture)

Calibre: 38 cm (14,96 inch)

Range: 48 km

"DICKE BERTA"

Calibre: 42 cm (16,53 inch)

(This is for our "big gun" fan UncleAl, and for Bullethead.)

The battle of the Somme - the preceding arty barrage could be heard in London...

And before anyone thinks, big guns are a "great thing", you may watch this video.

But let me warn you - it is very disturbing.

Yeah, that's pretty grim.

Yeah, shellfire causes like 75-80% of all battlefield casualties, and it's usually not pretty. Big, jagged hunks of metal cause horrific wounds.
