Jaguar Fuel tank repaints

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've managed to get the Jaguar GR.1 working ok in SF2E, however I have downloaded a number of other skins. The RAF flew this jet in the 1991 Gulf war, and the Coltishall wing often deployed north to Norway as part of their NATO commitment to ACE. In the 1990's like the Tornado and Harrier, they were then re-painted in LIF Grey.

The basic package only comes with the 1980's/early 90's grey/green wraparound camo, so new tanks are needed for the other schemes the jet wore throughout it's service life. The default grey/green fuel tanks needed to be packaged and entered into SF2E via the weapons editor, which worked ok and they're available to load on missions.

I've repainted the Jaguar tanks in arctic, desert (operation Granby), and the later grey colours. After re-naming the files so they all correspond, I got them all loaded via the weapons editor with no problem, however they still won't show in the sim. Rather strangley the grey one shows in the list, but there's apparently none available for use!

Here's the details for the Desert version.

I've re-named the folders from TANK_NADR to:

Tank_NADR_Desert

Tank_NADR_Arctic

Tank_NADR_Grey

Here's the entry for Tank_NADR_Desert_data.ini

[WeaponData001]

TypeName=Tank_NADR_Desert

FullName=NADR UK Desert

ModelName=NADRUK_Desert

Mass=950.000000

Diameter=0.525000

Length=5.065000

SubsonicDragCoeff=0.200000

SupersonicDragCoeff=0.770000

AttachmentType=

SpecificStationCode=

NationName=

StartYear=0

EndYear=0

Availability=0

BaseQuantity=0

Exported=FALSE

ExportStartYear=0

ExportEndYear=0

ExportAvailability=0

WeaponDataType=5

MaxFuelAmount=1200.000000

Asymmetrical=FALSE

Here's the Tank_NADR_Desert.config entry:

[WeaponData]

ObjectFullName=NADR UK Desert

ObjectDataFile=Tank_NADR_Desert_data.INI

The bitmap file has also been renamed NADRUK_Desert.bmp, and the name change has been correctly entered into the LOD file.

As these are being recognised by the weapon editor, I'm puzzled as to why they're not showing in the sim itself. I've even tried defaulting them in the Jaguar loadout.ini with no joy.

I hope someone with better knowledge than I, can help shed some light on this!

Cheers :good:

Hi Russ,

I didn't either mate, I simply copied the NADR fuel tank folder three times, painted the bitmap to either arctic, grey or desert in each, then just renamed all the stuff inside. I then opened the weapon editor to add them to the sim, so I didn't actually edit anything using the WE program. When I open the Weapon Editor they show up ok, but just ain't doing the same in the sim! :dntknw:

Actually your post could read two ways, do I need to edit them in the Weapons Editor and they'll show up, or should I not edit them and then they'll show up ok? :wink:

wot I mean is...open the tanks in weap editor....close and save as you would with new weapons...

if thats not cured it...It looks like you have a typo somewhere...

Ok mate, I'll now take a peek.

one thing you could look at too is....I had wgermany in attachmenttype for summat and it should have read w_germany.....check the nation entry too..a simple typo can cause a lot of swearing...lol

I've checked the spelling and it all looks fine to me.

Here's a screenie from the Arctic version so you can see what's what.

Hey Planejunky, how about typing UK instead of RAF at AttachmentType in WeaponData?

I am not home, so I cannot check my own install whether it says RAF or UK.

I guess a small test wont' hurt though :good:

I've tried that mate, I still had no joy. :blink::no:

Planejunky, are you sure SF2E allows more than 1 type of fuel tank on 1 aircraft?

I mean, are you sure you can actually load tanks with different TypeName?

WOE for example required that the different tanks have the same TypeName to show them all in the loading menu and allow the player choose one...

sfp1 did allow it...I had 2 different colour tanks for the lightning...but the 3d model had a different bmp assigned as texture...so that may be the problem ..

russouk2004, you've illustrated my point: both entries include TypeName=Tank_F6

In Planejunky's case we have 1 tank with TypeName=Tank_NADR_Desert , 1 tank with TypeName=Tank_NADR_Arctic and 1 tank with Tank_NADR_Grey

I guess his aircraft data.ini shows FuelTankName=Tank_NADR_Grey

As far as I am aware, SF2E is made so that the folder for each weapon is named just as the TypeName.

So, if the TypeName=Tank_NADR_Desert, the folder name must be Tank_NADR_Desert as well.

However, if the aircraft data.ini does not list FuelTankName=Tank_NADR_Desert, one will not be able to load that tank, although it exists in the weapons folder. Also one cannot have 2 subfolders with the same name in 1 folder.

Planejunky, I have made a successful test with the InSky's J-10 as follows:

1. Created 2 different in colour fuel tanks

Tank 1: J10_370glFT, placed in folder named J10_370glFT and TypeName=J10_370glFT, coloured dark grey

Tank 2: J10_370gPFT, placed in folder named J10_370gPFT and TypeName=J10_370gPFT, coloured light grey

2. Editted the J-10A_data.ini as follows:

- made separate weapon stations through ini editing on each wing only for fuel tanks to be loaded

- on the right and left wing I have 2 almost identical weapon stations on each wing, however one shows FuelTankName=J10_370glFT, the other FuelTankName=J10_370gPFT

So, now I am able to choose a skin and an appropriate in colour fuel tank for it.

I suggest that Loadout.ini is editted to show the fuel tank that matches the skin under TextureSet001 in the aircraft ini file.

This way the AI aircraft will be loaded with proper fuel tank to their default camo.

I guess it is not the easiest or smartest of the possible solutions, but worked for me.

We're starting to make progress, but some weard stuff is still happening! The inner wing stations have now been edited to be loaded seperately, and work fine.

Tank 1: J10_370glFT, --- is this the Bitmap file? placed in folder named J10_370glFT and TypeName=J10_370glFT, coloured dark grey

I have three seperate folders, all named differently without any other folders within them.

Tank 1: J10_370glFT, --- is this the Bitmap file? placed in folder named J10_370glFT and TypeName=J10_370glFT, coloured dark grey

By accident, yes, my bmp is J10_370glFT.bmp, however that's not the major issue here.

The bmp file must be named just as the LOD file says. For my own pleasure, I tend to HEX edit the LOD file to rename the BMP as per my liking.

The important issue here is that the tank folder must be named exactly as the TypeName says.

So, I have 2 different in colous fuel tanks and these are the contents of the folders:

Folder named J10_370glFT:

J10_370gl.LOD

J10_370gl-001.LOD

J10_370gl-002.LOD

J10_370glFT.bmp

J10_370glFT.INI

J10_370glFT_DATA.INI

Here is the weapon data entry for this tank:

[WeaponData001]

TypeName=J10_370glFT

FullName=J-10 370gal Wing Tank

ModelName=J10_370glFT

BaseQuantity=0

Folder named J10_370gPFT:

J10_370gP.LOD

J10_370gP-001.LOD

J10_370gP-002.LOD

J10_370gPFT.bmp

J10_370gPFT.INI

J10_370gPFT_DATA.INI

Here is the weapon data entry for this tank:

[WeaponData001]

TypeName=J10_370gPFT

FullName=J-10 370gal PLAAF Wing Tank

ModelName=J10_370gPFT

Mass=1500.000000

ExportStartYear=0

I have highlighted in BOLD the important parts, that must match.

Hope that helps :good:

Again the important parts are in BOLD.

The reason to separate the fuel tanks in weapon stations able to carry only tanks is to avoid double loads on a single station.

Ok, the tanks are all showing in the list ok, the aircraft is able to carry them ok, however we still have a couple of problems.

A) They're not actually visible (a model problem I suspect :blink: ).

B) I've assigned a grey tank to one wing, and a desert tank on the other in the Jaguar's ini file. Instead of all tanks being available for all FT enabled stations, only the assigned ones show as available, in other words I can only load a desert tank to the left wing, and a grey one to the right and don't have a choice of tanks (hope that makes sense).

The new variations had already been set up as you suggested, for example the desert tanks details:

Folder name = Tank_NADR_Desert

Model name (LOD file) = NADRUK

Data.ini file = Tank_NADR_Desert_data

Sorry, mate, you didn't get the point. Take a look again at my previous post.

I have 4 weapons stations dedicated only to FT, 2 on each wing, 1 for each type of tank.

If you wish, you may PM me your aircraft data ini. I'll edit it for you.

Ah I see! There may be a problem there as there's three wet stations on the Jag, and all are used to carry weapons too. I generally use the centreline pylon for fuel though, leaving the wings free for a larger weapons loadout. I'm now sending you a copy of the weapons lines in the Jag data.ini.

Cheers :good:

Svetlinnh, you mentioned you edited the LOD. I have HHD Hex editor and have tried to rename the bmp listed in the LOD. Thought I had it but the tanks still dont show. They are in the weapons editor but not the game. Ive made the adjustments you mentioned for the data.ini for the plane...

I wish I could show you what I did in the editor with the LOD. But it was simply renameing the bmp to match the new camo and green bmps with each tank. Do dots and spaces in the LOD make that much differance? Im kinda at a standstill here. Ive done all I can think of so now Im pestering you.
