MaverickMike 10 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) Iv started this thread because basically im in a rut and im after a bit of information. Ill start off by explaining my situation. I graduated from university last May with a degree in computer networks and have since been looking for work. I have been unsuccesful so far and have only had one interview. Its really starting to get me down as everyone was saying to go to uni and study etc and i feel that i have been left worse off than if I had just stuck with the a levels I received and found a job straight from college. I had a 2:1 in my degree which is the second best grade so I don't think my results have anything to do with it. I have been receiveing emails from the RAF regarding joining them and becoming an I.T specialist and was just wondering whether there is anyone here who does this job, knows anyone who has does or has done it and whether its a good thing to get into. +ST0RM 145 Posted August 13, 2009 I've been reading about the job losses in the UK. Like ours in the States, companies are trimming way down and making the remaining workers do more with less. They are feeling what we've been doing in the military for the last 15+ years. The military is a good place to hone your skills and even advance them, while getting paid for it. Granted it may not be the same entry level pay, but in these times, it may be the best option for you. I don't know what your enlistment requirements are, but 2-4 years is not that much time and the economy should be better by then. Derk 265 Posted August 13, 2009 Serving with the military for a couple of years is considered an asset in this country. On gets used to a kind of disipline and it also helps to build up a network of people one knows and who can be helpfull in the future. Normally there are also possibilities for further specialisation, training and education and - assuming you didn't finish university at an age of 50+, it looks like a very good opportunity to acquire your first job experience, which is worth its weight in gold (as we say it) andmakes it a lot easier to get into another job after some years . I'll have to do the same thing, as the (French) Navy has opened a position and proposed it to me (among others). Oh, and learn to swim too... Gee... I'm afraid of water!
