Well, i was browsing through my game files for few hours, and i was unable to find anything, so i ask here:

Is there any way to modify weapon and aircraft prices in SF1? (and while we are at it, mission rewards as well?)

I want to make my merc campaign a bit harder - with current prices, i dont really need to worry about wasting ordnance :(.

If you open up the campaign data file, you'll see the merc squadron something like this:

[AirUnit007]

AircraftType=A-4B

UnitName=1st Special Operations Wing

ForceID=1

Nation=MERC

MercenaryUnit=TRUE

PlayerOnly=True

StartingFunds=10000

DefaultTexture=USNGrey1

BaseArea=Delta Station

CarrierBased=TRUE

CarrierNumber=41

RandomChance=100

MissionRate=5.0

MaxAircraft=16

StartAircraft=8

MaxPilots=16

StartPilots=8

Experience=100

Morale=100

Supply=50

MissionChance[sWEEP]=10

MissionChance[CAP]=10

MissionChance[iNTERCEPT]=10

MissionChance[ESCORT]=10

MissionChance=90

MissionChance[CAS]=90

MissionChance[sEAD]=90

MissionChance[ARMED_RECON]=90

MissionChance[ANTI_SHIP]=90

MissionChance[RECON]=90

UpgradeType=ANY

So what you'd want to change for added difficulty is StartingFunds= to perhaps something like $1000 or something and also the amount of planes/pilots you start off with. I find the default 16 to be way too high. Basically, the less aircraft you start off with, the more you are likely to replace them (which costs money). Also starting off with something a little harder to employ air to air than the F-100 is also a good way to increase difficulty.

Hmm, i havent thought about that.

I was looking for a way to raise aircraft and weapons prices...

But i guess simple solution works as well.

Still, bombs costing less than 100$ bug me a little bit :(.

Unfortunately the prices are hardcoded and cannot be changed.

That makes me very sad :(.

Still, SF remains the closest thing to Strike Commander or Area88 so far, so i guess i should be happy.

AFAIK All 2008 patched games support a mercenary side. Obviously you would need to edit the campaign and also add an image file: menu\LoadoutMercPad.bmp [290x315]

Looks like Merc aircraft prices are still based on the aircraft's range. Not sure what sets the prices for ordnance but probably some similar variable. Its a pity TK didn't give us more freedom with this aspect as I think its a side of the game that has a lot of potential.

Probably be picking up SF2 Vietnam here soon, I'll take a look at adding in Mercenary campaigns then.

It is possible to play the Vietnam campaigns as a mercenary unit, you just have to load it from SF2 instead of SF2V.

Ah...so there IS something different in the code....

Woops, actually there isn't different coding. I just forgot there's separate mod folders for each version. Plop the Merc modified campaign into the SF2V mod folder and it works like a charm.
