Problems with installing under Win 7

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

i just installed Windows 7 (32 Bit) and can´t get OFF runing again. The Problem is CFS 3 i think, cause i can install CFS3 and patch to 3.1a, but i can´t start CFS3 or CFS3config.exe, only error messages are the result, no matter what i try. Even starting in winXP mode doesn´t work. I installed OFF "on top" - the game launches and i am able to create pilots, but when going to flied/start a mission or quick combat only error messages are the result. I tried to copy the old files from OFF and CFS3 of my former installation from WinXP, but no luck.

What to do?

Some clarafication is required, the proper installation is CFS3, patched to V3.1 . . . . . . . . . . . The 3.1a isn't even needed, as it's merely a guage on the B-26

that doesn´t answer my question

Think its been pretty much estabished you cant take off from an old install..(like an old hard drive for instance),,,and copy it over to another computer....

Now not sure if thats the way you did it first...or thats the way you tried it after a fresh install of cfs3 and off didnt work.

It would be a great help if you could tell us what the error messages you got where.

And,,considering the fact that you did try and copy your old install back into your drive,,,,think its fair to say i total uninstall of both cfs3 and bhah are necessary. Make sure you get ALL the folders deleted...there are some ones in documents and settings for both cfs3 and bhah.

And i wouldnt attempt to install bhah until your cfs3 is running fine. If cfs3 is screwed up,,,chances are you bhah is going to be screwed up.

thx, i have the old install form OFF on another HD (and from CFS3)which i can copy - do i need CFS3 even so?

The install i did with Win 7 was a new/clean install form both, CFS3 and OFF - but i couldn´t CFS 3 make working. Error messages complaining about a non existing configoverride.xml, but i can´t start CFS3config.exe to create it. I copied the old one from my old HD to the concerning User\application data ... folder but no joy. When starting OFF and starting a mission, there is an error message showing, that the configoverride.xml is an old version and back it goes to the main screen.

dont try and use the old install you have on that other drive....it will only lead to problems. Granted,,there are some files there that may be just the same as if you did a fresh install, but its still not worth the problems it may cause...

the config error message you get is common, and all it means is that you have to run cfs3config, and make whatever setting changes you want. However, your saying you couldnt run cfs3config...can you be more specific about what you got when you tried?

and, the cfs3config.exe for cfs3 resides (if you used the default instalation path) c:\programfiles\microsoftgames\combat flight simulator 3......there is NO resaon why you should be modifying those folders in appplication data...

the cfs3config.exe for BHAH (if you used the default directory) is c:\obdsoftware\cfsww1 over flanders fields.

but,,like i said...at this point,,i would uninstall all..(including those folders in application data),,,reinstall CFS3 only, and make sure you have cfs3 running fine before you try to instal BHAH

I've the DVD version of CFS3 so it's not the same setup has yours. But...

One of the things I've to tweak in Win7 was the regional settings like is explained in FAQ. I've the English version of Win7 but my regional settings are set for Portugal, so I had to change the decimal symbol to "." instead of "," and change the Non-Unicode program to English.

Another thing I've done was to get the last DX9 (it's from August) and install it.

I've set cfs3.exe and OFFManager.exe to run with Administrator privileges in the Compatibility Tab.

You can try this with your actual installation. But if this don't work I'd try it again with a CFS3/OFF fresh install.

ok,,understand the problem you are having, but as of yet, have not seen anyone else with this type of problem, so going to assume there is a step/proceedure you are missing...

i would check out this thread (if you havnt already) http://forum.combatace.com/topic/48844-windows-7/

and,,i would post there the EXACT details of the problems you are having with cfs3 and see if anyone who got it to work under their w7 can give you some insight as to what they may have done differently to get it to run....

sorry you are having problems,,,and hope you get it up and running soon....

My pleasure.

Just for curiosity, is it running smooth as in the other Windows version?
