And my wingmen also need a kick up the arse

Recommended Posts

How can I stop these idiotic wingmen running into me? I have now been killed twice in two sorties by these assholes. It's hard enough fighting off the enemy without this happening and its not as if they do anything useful.

Immersion yes, but this is ridiculous. I am certain that this did not happen in reality as often as it is happening to me. :dntknw:

Hmmm - I never have that happening. When I turn into a fight, they usually drift on a bit,

before they also come round. As long as the fighting isn't too tough, I never order "attack"

for them; so they all follow like a comet's tail.

When it gets tough, I press "help" sometimes, and maybe "attack", but then I make sure

to stay high. A furball is too much to controll for everyone - it calls for accidents.

Jim are you using TrackIR?

It's a must for situational awareness

I used to get hit by the lunkheads too ...usually when hot on the tail of an adversary

I finally learned to just pull off & let them have him

Jim, I avoid the wingie collisions by running at 100% throttle at all times accept for dives, and landing of course. It's helpful in combat too, if you damage a foe, and wish to finish him off, you can use slashing attacks until he goes down.

But when I assign the a target for the wingies, I leave to it, unless they run into trouble, and need help. Helps to let them get some kills, as they tend to survive longer as they increase their scores. Not as many casualties listed lately with action every 2 to 3 missions.

This could be the problem. I always press 'attack'.... I'll stop doing that. I also fly always at 100% throttle as the Fees and Be2s will stall if you don't (and often if you do). I do have TrackIr but am a bit of a newbie to flying with it. Also with the Fee I can't really see behind at any time.

I am normally fixated on an enemy following them round to get my sights lined up when a wingman comes in from the side and takes us both out.

I also fly with normal spacing.

Lots of interesting info and opinions here. Personally, I think there's some kind of randomness to some of these things. I fly with AI agressiveness set to Historical and Flight spacing at Tightest. Until HitR v1.46 my wingmen rarely fired a shot, now the four I usually fly with have (combined) almost as many kills as I have. They tend to go for the single seaters (I have only two, so far, although none we've encountered as a group have made it home alive) and have no interest whatever in the two-seaters. And they work in pairs, when numbers allow. I stab at the attack key repeatedly whenever there are enemies within about 1500 yards and never designate a target, btw. And not only has none of them run into me, they also haven't gotten in each other's way. And even though I'm constantly telling them to tighten it up sometimes they are right behind me and others we pass each other in opposite directions on our patrol routes, they're so far behind me. But they're always right behind me as we descend toward our airfield at the end of the mission.

Oh, and even though I have Flight Position set to Lead by Rank, I'm in command of every mission whether or not someone outranks me. What's up with that? Do you know how hard it is to disobey orders when you're the one issuing them? I mean, what's a rebellious child of the 60's to do?

I am pretty sure in big dogfight mid air collisions were pretty common with no radio coms and that many aircraft flying randomly in close proxmity

Guest British_eh

Hi there:

I quite agree with the randomness of it all. I lost 3 pilots inside of a week, after going 5 weeks with one. Also, it seems that collisions with the enemy, or your own, seems to go in streaks.

Cheers,

Keeping your head on a swivel or at least keeping an eye on the TAC will help a lot here

I usually send the wingies after the tail end Charlies and attack the Leader

Since the Leader is normally separated a little from his wingies it tends to be more a 1 on 1 combat

So how do I send the wingies after the tail end Charlies? (I obviously have a lot to learn here, being a newbie to sims).

1. Switch the TAC to Aircraft only

2. Hit Next or Previous Target to select the HA

3. Hit Attack

At this point 2 wingies will peel off and attack that target

They attack in pairs

Repeat this process for as many wingies you have

I'm not sure of the exact keystrokes as I've remapped everything to my stick

Just hit Esc\Controls\ (while flying) and the pop up will display all your control options

HTH,
