Hi all,

I'm new to SF series...

I just got SF2 Israel, (so forgive my ignorance)

and wanted to add some mods.

I got the cat extractor from the Utilities section,

installed it but it seems that I cannot use it properly???

Every time I try to extract a cat file I get an error messege.

Sould I try reinstalling it?

Do I have to extract every cat file in my game to start adding mods?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome!

Basic modding, adding aircraft, skins, weapons, terrains to the SF2 series, does not require use of a cat extractor.

You might want to start by visiting this link for helpful info: http://forum.combata...i-first-eagles/

And here is info about using the cat extractor in SF2: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/44027-extracting-files-from-sf2-series-cat-files-by-migbuster/

I hope this helps.

Have some fun!

Thanks TurtleHawk!

I've been reading the forums all afternoon, but I haven't figured out the trick...yet.

For Example I tried to install the Hollywood explosions mod.

According to the installation instructions I have to find and buck up two Folders named

Flight and Effects.

I found the Flight folder...no trace of the Effects folder though!

I Opened with the cat tool the FlightData.cat and found some relevant files with the Hol. Eff. mod

that are supposed to be replaced, but where on earth is that Effects folder and

how can I put the modded file back to the game?

I think I'm missing something funtamental here.

I am used to IL-2 mods and modding and having a hard time here...

You don't need to put the modded files in the .cat files, no reason too. In your User/Thirdwire/SF2/ folder, simply create an "Effects" folder, and place the modded files in there. The game will read those instead of the files in the .cat file, so you don't have to worry about losing the base (unmodded) files with an overwrite.
