Bandy 3 Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) Yah, those cars aren't going anywhere soon... You know something, funny you mentioned it. My wife was so sweet, she stopped by and picked me up two 6-packs of Flying Dog IPA and Double IPA, local beer for me while I was stuck at work yesterday. Bandy 3 Posted February 7, 2010 There is a Cadillac under there somewhere... Hope the government decides to shut down, because I can't move. Had 3 or 4 serious brown outs yesterday, but I think the danger of power outages is past.
Bullethead 12 Posted February 7, 2010 That doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Hope you have enough booze to last until the thaw. BTW, I hear such snowstorms usually result in local baby-booms. So be careful in there Who'd a thunk it.

As soon as I finished my driveway, the #{:content:}amp;@ snow plow rammed up a 6' wall of ice, slush and snow that I had to break through! Dude... Long Island is about to be slammed Tuesday into Wednesday.... maybe over 14"+ Feel like coming out here with whatever you used on that driveway to make it look so pretty... I'll provide the beer. ConradB 0 Posted February 8, 2010 Hey OVS, you may want to offer asome Kentucky windage for scaring off he cold instead. We're supposed to get 10+ inches here, which is weird, as we're supposed to be in that snowbelt that goes through the thumb area of Michigan, and we've dodged the bullet so to speak so far this year. It has dumped north, south, and east of us, but we've been relatively unscathed so far. But I do have the chains and plow on the Craftsman ridin' mower, as the driveway is about 250 ft long here at my uncle's place.
gordohk 1 Posted February 8, 2010 Nice photos Bandy. Get ready for another 5"+ Tues-Wed.
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted February 8, 2010 . Oh, these pictures make me feel right at home here in Minnie-Snow-Ta. We were supposed to get a total of 10" of new snow starting yesterday afternoon, but as is often the case W-man was wrong. I just went out and checked and there is 13" of fresh fall already and it's still snowing and blowing to beat the band with another 6" to 8" still on the way, (revised forecast from the same accurate W-man). I am running out of places to pile it up and my extra vehicle which sits next to the garage, (also a Cadillac Bandy, '76 Coupe DeVille to be precise), is now nothing more than a very large white lump. But, as you have so rightly pointed out, this just means more stick time in OFF. And, I have a snowmobile if I run low on needed supplies and refreshments. . Lou, I don't know if I should complain or smile. I am in south Texas now and though the weather is nice (but not always what one would think) I can only fly a barely respectable campaign on my laptop. (That is because of graphics and frame rates being on the very low end) So, though I may have warmer temps and no snow, my main machine that gives me a thrill when in BHand H, sits back in MN in the cold, just waiting for the warm touch of my fingers on the joystick. So, I mostly live my adventures through the posts of all you brave airman out there. Go Get 'em Edited February 8, 2010 by Ras

OvS What made that driveway pretty was 3+ hours of shovelling by four people and a little bit of mid-day sunshine on black asphalt. We're due for another 10" to 20" starting at noon today until sometime on Wednesday. I don't have anywhere else to throw the darn snow!

Tough call. .

Our neighborhood looks like a well developed trench system from the front. It's so bad, some of it is bleeding over. It's supposed to snow or sleet here (AGAIN) tonight or tomorrow. Probably won't stick, or be very much if it does, but ANY around here is cause for alarm

If you look close, you can see the Sparrow crushed under his right Talon... Schweet Where I live, we call those birds "duck hawks". That's because their most notable performances are this time of year when they swoop over your pond and get air-to-air kills on wood ducks. The ducks see him coming and all scramble, and he vulches one out of the herd. The hawk can't fly far carrying a bird as big as he is, but he's got enough momentum (usually) to make a controlled crash on the far bank. Wish I had a vid of that. Now all we have to do is move the Winter Olympics from that dry barren drought ridden Vancouver to Washington DC I was thinking they should run the Snowboarding Half-Pipe straight off the side of the Jefferson Monument... and maybe do the Downhill on the front lawn of the White House? Sound OK? It might work.
Bandy 3 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) OvS, that is a beautiful picture. Always great to be in the right place at the right time, AND with a camera! Just have ta pile it higher bro! Like our Canadian neighbors sometimes have to do. My greataunt and uncle lived in Montreal all their lives, and they had snow piled up over 6 ft from time to time. Ok, I'm an expat Canadian and lived there into my early 30's (both Northern Ontario and S. Ontario) and I never experienced the concentrated winter weather like we just had in the D.C. area. The U.S. Federal Gov'm has been shut down ALL week, at a loss of 100 million dollars a day. That ain't pocket change... I live in a small townhouse community, and there just isn't any more room to put the white stuff. The snowbank along my parking spots is 8+ feet high, mostly from human effort (yours truly, I'm downing ibuprophen like candy for my shoulder issues!) but other people are shoveling it into the street, basically adding insult to injury, and passing the problem onto their neighbours when the plow comes by, whenever that will be.... The side streets are basically impassible. Now that things are melting we have icicles of Gothic proportions! That one you see below (to the left of the second story window with black shutters) is at least 8 feet long, the camera angle doesn't do it justice...
