So this makes it stay in the hud? Or gets rid of it altogether?

(Gee I can hear the people lining up now for the jokes.)

That is nice! My joke reference was the way I worded my response. The last part was a play on a word in the movie Airplane.

you are right. it does not work when Effects set to Unlimited. That probably has something to do with the shader attached to the {gunsightmaterial}.

In WOE first gen and WinXP this working. CCIP/gunsight disappears on the panel or windscreen frame. Still floating on windscreen glass but now is less annoying. Thanks Orsin!

In short it does not work in DX10...

You will probably loose the entire HUD like that if you use DX10...

I tried it with an DX10 integrated graphics and it works unless your Effect set to Ultimate. If you encountered a problem you may also remove the EffectShader=twColor1.fx line in the [gunsightmaterial] section

Can this work for the sun too?

I've increased the size of my sun quite a bit to make it more reasonable, and it's most noticable near sunset. However, it burns through the dash board (I think even the plane itself from outside, but I can't recall right now, I've been testing stuff with weather set to clear at mid-day for the last week or 2).

And if anyone knows of anyway to make the sun truly blind you, that would abso-freakin-lutely rock. (I just found out that even Strike Commander (from 1993) had that, when you looked at hte sun, everything was burned out - as it should be)

and i would like HDR to blind me if i look at the sun, and if i reach for my RL shades i could distiguish stuff in the sunlight or if i shade my eyes with my hand :P

Strike Commander did it in 1993. LOMAC did it in 2003. It's really not an outlandish thing to desire as your sarcasm suggests. However, doing it in an aftermarket fashion without access to the original code, that might well be impossible. Always worth a try though. :)

Just blocking the sun from bleeding through dashboards and plane externals (in a similar fashion as the CCIP mod) would be excellent. :)

have to clarify intention or mood wasn't sarcastic at all  just plainly in a humouring / teasing mood :) Btw Farcry had it too. I like though how sun glare HDR works in SF2. It does give you some trouble seeing things when facing the sun
