SlickWili 0 Posted June 11, 2004 The Rainbow Six movie is slated for a 2005 release. I've been waiting a long time to see this book turn into a movie, because I really enjoyed reading this particular Tom Clancy novel (and love the games.) Though it's evidently to take more after Tom Clancy's novel than the concurrently-developed PC shooter from Red Storm, Hong Kong action impresario John Woo has signed on to direct a movie based on Rainbow Six, Variety reports today. For those counting, this is now the third somehow-videogame-related project on Woo's plate. His Tiger Hill production company has optioned Nintendo's Metroid property, and he's also reportedly in negotiations to direct the 2005 Spy Hunter movie starring The Rock. Tiger Hill also has three original videogame concepts in varying stages of development. The Rainbow Six movie will follow the exploits of the eponymous counterterrorist team, led by Clancy's famous CIA agent John Clark and his right-hand man Domingo "Ding" Chavez. It's not clear how faithfully it will adapt the plot of the novel (wherein a rogue biotech company seeks to wipe out humanity with a genetically engineered virus). Clark will be played by Liev Schreiber, who portrayed the character briefly in the recent adaptation of Clancy's The Sum of All Fears, rather than Willem Dafoe, who first played Clark in the earlier film version of Clear and Present Danger. However, Raymond Cruz will return from Clear and Present Danger in the role of Chavez. No dates or other details on the film are available, but we'll look out for more news as the project develops. SDirickson 0 Posted June 11, 2004 Yeah, let us all hope the movie isn't gay. More Black Hawk Down, less plain s**t.
