The Collings Foundation is trying to add a flying F-105 to their collection. Thud project

By way of WWII connection, the Collings Foundation Bomber tour came through Albuquerque a couple of weeks ago. I'm embarrassed to say I initially thought the B-24 on base turning final was a V-22. In my defense, we have a lot more V-22's here than Liberators. The Liberator makes less noise though, so even at 4-5 miles, it's a dead giveaway.

I don't know what airframe they're trying to get the Air Force to donate, but there aren't many left. Plunkett's excellent "F-105 Thunderchiefs" lists every surviving airframe, and of those still around, the best preserved (outside of museums) are probably the few squirreled away at AMARC in Tuscon.
