Mustang is a high altitude finesse fighter and not turn&burn dogfight shooter plane.

 

 

A proof of that would be the 1969 Football War between El Salvador and Honduras. Both countries still used piston engine fighters, and the Corsairs raped the Mustangs in the low altitude engagements wich ensued beyond considerations of best piloting, mission profile and others.
