bmp to tga for gunsights

Recommended Posts

I would like to use other gunsights that I have for SF2 but they are in bmp format and I've tried to convert them to tga's using irfranview. The problem I have is that it brings in the background with the sights leaving me well....blind. I'm starting to think that irfranview is not the program for this or I'm I missing something? I am by far not skilled at all at graphics, but I like to take a stab from time to time.

irfan dosen't create the alpha layer needed to "hold out" parts of the background. (think of the alpha as a matte, like used to be used on motion pictures, before CGI)

You'd need PhotoShop or GIMP (gimp is a free d/l)

you make gunsight tgas just like you would a decal

Paint.net is another freeware option. I use it to create .TGA files (mostly decals and effects) with the proper alpha channel.
