Fliegerschiessen Axalp 2010

Recommended Posts

Hi,

this year I've been to Fliegerschiessen Axalp, the shooting exercise organized every year by the Swiss Air Force.

Hillclimb started at 5:30 am with a shuttle bus to the small village of Axalp. There were very low clouds, and the climb on the chairlift looked like a scene from an horror movie: you couldn't see neither the terrain below you nor the vehicle in front of you. Suddenly, we were out of the clouds, and the rising sun gave us this beautiful sight (sorry for the tram cables, but there was no way I could avoid them):

And after that, I had to climb by foot for 3 hour and a half, always with this sight:

When I arrived at the 1st spectator point, F-5s started their morning trials

After the F-5s, I climbed to the 2nd spectator point, while the F/A-18s were performing their trials

Fuoco!

Between passes, I was able to see some very efficient variable-geometry planes

While I was waiting for the beginning of the real airshow (scheduled for 2 pm), EC635s were bringing food supplies to the various spectator points and Pumas were taking VIPs to the shooting range

Unfortunately, 1 hour before the air show I was forced by my friends to descend to the 1st spectator points, where taking photos was much more difficult

Let the show begin!

Whoa!

Target hit!

And F-5s

Unfortunately, clouds were raising quickly and we decided to descend back to Brienz before clouds prevented us from descending at all...
