Wodin 0 Posted January 17, 2011 When you shoot down an Ace and get it confirmed is the Ace then taken out of the campaign...or can you meet him again? If he isn't taken out of the campaign and you do meet him it's a big immersion killer....so if it isn't implemented maybe it's a good idea for Phase 4. Wodin 0 Posted January 18, 2011 I don't padlock I do use the hit labels...not the plane labels... Well thats a little immersion killer then....hope Phase 4 keeps track...the campaign system is THE reason OFF comes out on top...so I hope they fix this. Wodin 0 Posted January 18, 2011 If things can't be improved then Phase 4 would be pointless....the campaign should keep track of aces killed...even if it's just the ones you kill....I'm not interested in wining I just want some consistency whilst playing a campaign...if it's a sim then seeing an ace go down in flames one day then fighting him again three days later seems a little odd. I feel it's an area for improvement.
tranquillo 10 Posted January 19, 2011 I see your point about it being an immersion killer but respecfully suggest that using hit labels is more so? . Regarding aces, I'm not sure if they cease to be around after the date that they died in real life. Don't know if anyone's come across that. I know it's not possible to alter the course of the war through your actions in OFF and perhaps this is why you can't kill an ace 'till it's time.
smilingmonkey 1 Posted January 21, 2011 I was thinking about this today as I was playing... The conclusion I came to is that I would be quite happy to just get back to the airfield..any airfield...or even a nice clear patch of ground, if I met an ace. I only say that because I ran into a group of Dr 1's for the first time yesterday whilst playing my British campaign...I have yet to enlist a new pilot for the british. To my mind having an ace reappear later on would not be such a bad thing, my own wingman seemed to be going down in flames during a brew-up on our side of the lines, shot down by some French pilot whom I then de-winged in a fit of revenge....later,at the airfield he wandered back in and was ready to go... And I myself have managed to put a burning machine down and end flight with only massive injuries and a good long stay in hospital... Who knows what is possible in the sim...Hell,my German pilot was forced down with engine failure today, behind enemy lines only to escape capture and return to fight after a twenty day run through the war...( I breathed a sigh of relief that time,he is my favourite pilot thus far). Love this sim.
Wodin 0 Posted January 21, 2011 I shot down two aces in one flight the other day....Emil Schafer and Kurt Wolf....Manfred and Lothar was there too. I managed a few hits on Lothar before running out of ammo....Three missions later Emil turns up and shoots me down...revenge
tranquillo 10 Posted January 21, 2011 I was shot down by Albert Ball once. I was flying in the same squadron as him at the time:punish:.
smilingmonkey 1 Posted January 22, 2011 I gave this answer about a month ago, to a rather angry chap, who just had his ace pilot, interned for the duration. You might like it. You can eliminate that bit of nastiness, and always escape the POW camp. By selecting Pilot NEVER Dies, in Workshop. However you MUST volutarily Retire your pilot when the time in Hospital exceeds 24 Days. Because according to the Manager your pilot can Never Die Example: Make a forced landing over enemy territory, 17 Days between the sheets, then escape the camp over the weekend. However, you get shot down in a ball of flame, from 9,000. That's 27 Days in Hospital . . . . . . . . . .Instant RETIREMENT. You can play this way, and last quite awhile . . OR . . you can play this way, and CHEAT, and last Forever The Only One will ever know is YOU No... I couldn't play it on "pilot never dies", That element of risk is, for me at least, what brings with it a sense of tension.. I play on "dice roll on death", and have had two pilots captured over enemy lines, Three killed outright in dogfights, and only once have I seen the "you escaped from capture" message. Oh, I also had my very first ever pilot crash and die on take off...bit sad, but it did make me appreciate the delicacy of the machinery. So far I have not had a stay in hospital longer than 19 days, except for one pilot who was captured, he was in for about a month. Then transfered to a nice POW facility, for tea, biscuits and burn cream presumably. I was very lucky with my pilot who landed his burning craft..I had been involved in a huge fight on our side of the lines, and had been shot up pretty well. The engine was failing and I made a run for the ground trying to survive. I was at about 100' when a little fire started, I was able to put it down, pretty roughly I admit, before the whole thing was engulfed in flames...I ended mission pretty fast on that one. To my mind that replicated my pilot jumpng out of the plane and legging it as it rolled to a halt. I took your advice regarding the TAC with the compass in it...it works for me. Wodin 0 Posted January 22, 2011 I have had three of my best pilots...(all with around 14 hours worth of time) killed due to an AI Bus smashing into me coming from no where...that really hurts..still not hit the 17 hours yet due to this...
Wodin 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Twice enemy and once wingman...he decides to attack the Bus I'm having ago at and hits me from the right rear...
