Falcon161 3 Posted March 23, 2011 well as some of you know I purchased a "Spanish Lady" about a month ago and Recently I got to fire this beauty on the New Hanouver County Sherrifs Firing range after doing qualifications with the Glock 17. I must say she is a "BLAST" to shoot sounds like a cannon going off. I however do notlike the ugly real tree camo and decided to give it a more tactical Look now I need your help my friends and fellow rifle owners in finding good parts for my project
SopmodMikeFour 4 Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) I used to own one. Here in the states they are produced from ex-spanish military parts kits by Century Arms.Mine shot great for a few months but then it started to have issues. The welds done by CA were very poor internally.Several of the welds where the take down pins near the butt stock are broke free and it started to jam constantly. Also the paint that they use to finish the rifle started to flake off.I promptly sold it. To answer your questions you may want to hunt down an H&K G3 stock set. They require minor modification to fit the Cetme rifles. There used to be a gentleman several years ago that had a website and modded the G3 stocks to fit.He even had the H&K G3 fat forends modified to fit Cetmes. They came in black or OD green. You could also acquire the standard wood stock, black pistol grip, and wood forend for the rifle to get rid of the tree camo. As far as the finish you are best off buying a product called Gun-Kote or Duracoat and redoing the rifle. It is very durable when applied correctly. They both come in a multitude of different colors to suit anyone. Siddley 9 Posted March 23, 2011 I hate Realtree, it's just about the stupidest finish ever. Well done for wanting to get rid of it. If you are really serious about taking your CETME back to stock condition then you could strip it down, get it sandblasted and then re-parkerised. Just be sure that whoever is parking it knows guns and plugs the barrel, you don't want the solution to get in there, etch the bore and ruin the rifling. The only tricky aspects of detail stripping the receiver are the mag catch and the charging handle. They just require a thin drift ( we call it a drift in the UK, maybe the US word is punch ? ) to knock the pins out. I can walk you through that, but it's easy enough to find the G3 armourers manual on the net. There's also a spring and a ball bearing which you don't want to lose when you take the rearsight off too. I do know that CETME furniture will fit a G3 with minor mods, so I expect the reverse is also true - just to confirm what Akwar has already pointed out. I really like the CETME wood personally, I'm a sucker for classic wood and steel battle rifles. I'm glad you like your new rifle, I hope you and her have many happy hours together
Falcon161 3 Posted March 24, 2011 she is a geat rifle I have had her checked out and was told tha I should have no problems with her....I am looking for a tactical rail systm fr the hand guard and the upper receiver
Siddley 9 Posted March 24, 2011 There isn't an upper or lower on a G3\CETME, it's just a receiver. You have been hanging around too long with the AR-15 crowd if you think they come in two halves, like that aluminium mousegun :) I expect you noticed that a 7.62 battle rifle has some serious recoil ? :) Any optic you put on there is going to have to be well secured, or it will shift under recoil and ruin your zero. Take a look at the top part of the weapon, the tube that the cocking handle runs in, and you'll see that there are two pairs of lugs forged into the steel. They are there to take a STANAG claw mount for optics. Those claw mounts are stupidly expensive ( real ones anyway, there are airsoft replica's but they wouldn't last 5 seconds on a proper rifle like you have ) What you could do is to get a gunsmith to weld a picatinny rail on there, and then you'll be able to mount any optic you like. If he makes it low profile enough then you'll still be able to use the iron sights. I'd do it for you myself, but I'm on the other side of the Atlantic ocean and the import\export paperwork would probably cost twice what the rifle is worth....even if we could get it squared away legally somehow
Nixou 25 Posted March 24, 2011 Yeah nice rifle. If i remember well, the german company Heckler und koch (HK) purchased the license of the cetme modelo c to create their G3 family, that's how HK begun its career. Although i think quite surprisingly the inner part and workin is not the same. Maybe i'm wrong there..
Falcon161 3 Posted March 24, 2011 Well they sell the low profile rail mounts on an H&K parts website but they are like 165 easy so I may have to break down and get it..I have heard some awful things about the UTG parts that are made for the real steel rifle...hahah your right I have been hanging around to many AR-15 owners one of my instructors has a personal one he uses on the SWAT team
+Muesli 2,161 Posted March 24, 2011 Love the CETME, as mentioned earlier I also am a sucker for plain steel and wood. I sometimes spend a few rounds with the good old FN FAL (the original on which the L1A1 is based) which in the Dutch Army was replaced with the Diemaco C7/8 in the nineties. Yuck! Anyway, enjoy your toy!
Siddley 9 Posted March 24, 2011 Hmm, what do we have here ? A rifle which I'm drooling over ( like Homer Simpson when he sees a doughnut ) But I can also spot an AK variant with an underfolding stock and two spare mags, Rumanian ? Some 5 round stripper clips for 7.62 NATO and a UK issue ammo box, plus a copy of Mig Alley ( now that's an oldie but a goody ) You sir, are a man of good taste

Yup you nailed everything although the AK is a Polish AKMS.Mags are ex-East German.Ammo is in fact Brit surplus.Good job and thanks.
SopmodMikeFour 4 Posted March 25, 2011 Falcon you should post a pic of your Cetme.I know the ones that were painted realtree camo used to have the original wood furniture but were painted camo. You can always strip the wood and redo it to its natural color. Siddley 9 Posted March 25, 2011 Ammo is in fact Brit surplus Good old Radway Green ( RG headstamp, I'm sure you know ) I used to run surplus RG machinegun ammo ( they make two variants of 7.62 ball, one for support weapons and one for sniper use ) through my L42A1 clone. It's bloody good stuff.

Siddley 9 Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) Would anyone like pics of it OF COURSE WE WANT PICTURES !!!!!! Edited April 8, 2011 by Siddley
SopmodMikeFour 4 Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) Of course we want to see pics.I suspect we have a lot of gun owners here that like firearm porn. I sold my Cetme long ago due to the issues with it but here is mine before I replaced it with an STG-58.My collection has grown 5 times or so since that pick was taken. One thing you may want to hunt down for yours is the cleaning kit that went in the tube above the barrel. They can be hard to find but I always like making anything I own that's military surplus complete. The Cetme bayonet can also be tracked down for about $15 as can the bayonet lug that plugs right onto the upper tube, thats if it is legal in your state.
