  1. Last Minute Reprieve

Now that's a happy pooch. He fell on his feet, didn't he ?
  2. I'm back after a year

I really don't think anyone will remember me, but what the hell, I'm back :) We emigrated to Spain and now live on a little farm in the mountains with no phone TV or internet. But a year later we finally got something called WiMax so I'm back online. Must see what Third Wire mods are new....
  3. I'm back after a year

ODS, DLC ? it's like reading an F-16 flight manual I got it all figured out though, helped in the second case by a visit to the Third Wire site...
  4. I'm back after a year

Cheers ! - a perfect excuse to buy SF2 then ( I currently only have SF2 WOV and WOI, not SF2 itself ) Just hope my missis see's it that way, I'll have to do it on her Paypal...
  5. happy independence day Israel .

    Happy Birthday from me
  6. Seeing as I have been using WO* for over 4 years you might think I would be familiar with the 9B by now, but I must have avoided it so far due to aircraft and time period choice. Now I have the brilliant NATO fighters mod installed I'm flying the F104G in the 1968 campaign and it is equipped with the 9B. Not the most reliable missile in the world, is it ? How can I get the most out of the 9B ? I don't think I've had one guide yet, but it's difficult to tell.... On a similar note, is there a mod for the IR missile growl ? it's way too quiet and I'd like to turn it up if possible
  7. Rememberence Day

  8. It's all good, but if you try that in the Vietnam theatre then you'll be toast. Charlie just loves a low angle rocket or guns pass, you spend the maximum amount of time in his most effective AAA envelope that way. It's possibly suitable for attacking NVA bicycles in South Vietnam, in the absence of any serious AAA - but don't take those tactics up North
  9. Perhaps they should read the Manual?

The Enfield scope IS mounted over the centreline of the bore ( if you mean the No4T and L42A1 Enfields ) The sight on the Gimpy has to be offset because otherwise it would prevent the feed tray from opening when loading the weapon. In practical terms having a sight offset doesn't matter too much, except for precision shooting. I have used offset sights ( PSO's etc ) on AK's and an SVD - the shift in point of aim isn't really significant over the distances you would be shooting such a weapon. BTW - I'll be in Spain from mid-March onwards, if you want that beer I promised to buy you then PM me
  10. That's a great read, thanks. Your username seems really familiar Beach, have you written some stuff about sim racing as well ?
  11. If you have an older machine like mine, dual core, then you'll see a quite significant increase in frame rates. Value for money is a subjective thing, but I'm very, very pleased with SF2.
  12. Help needed for a Nerf problem

Thanks for introducing me to the world of Nerf. I didn't think there was anything gayer than airsoft, but now I know better
  13. Poyekhali! April 12 1961 50 years ago

    Damn right
  14. Iron Dome is doing a Great job.

I hope it keeps you guys safe. Israel forever !
  15. CETME

OF COURSE WE WANT PICTURES !!!!!!
  16. I keep thinking about building an aeroplane for our cat, and teaching him how to fly. It's a bit of an unrealistic proposition though, so I'll probably make him a little motorbike first and start him off that way I used to work for a now defunct UK motorcycle dealership, and the managing director ( who was a bit of a 'character' to say the least ) owned a light aircraft. There was a stretch of open countryside at the back of the main shop where I was a mechanic and one day he flew over to demonstrate to us what an ace pilot he was, diving under the power lines crossing the fields ( about 25ft AGL I'd guess ) Someone got the registration of his aircraft though, complained, and the CAA took his licence away from him. I didn't have a huge amount of sympathy. While the world needs nutters who push the envelope, but I'm not sure it needs nutters who might crash an aeroplane into your house just because they want to show off
  17. Honestly, I have no idea why I'm posting this...

Her half sister, Samantha Beckinsale ( a much less famous actress ) briefly lived in the same village as me when I was in my late teens - we are just about the same age and I'd see her around in the pubs. She was really pretty, I quite fancied her - and she had a nice personality by all accounts. I never bothered speaking to her though, a posh bird like that was way out of my league. I don't think she would have gone for a ride on my clapped out 650 BSA chopper..... < Insert ride on chopper joke here >
  18. I thought I knew a lot about AA missiles until I read this thread. Fascinating stuff, thanks to all involved.
  19. Teenagers often get a bad press

What a good lad, the parents deserve a pat on the back too for bringing him up to show bravery like that.
  20. My new best friends

I've still got an RWS Diana 52 sidelever. It's a rifle which I tuned myself way above the UK legal limit to something around 22-24ftlbs muzzle energy, depending on what pellet you use ( which is a fifth of .22 rimfire subsonic levels, sort of pathetic really in a way ) It's good fun and very accurate, but quite difficult to shoot due to the weird recoil of a high power spring air rifle. Great for wabbits and pigeons out to maybe 50 yards. It's OK for me to own because I have the paperwork needed for any class of firearm here ( except military stuff ) to own, sell or even manufacture. I think spring air rifles are a great training tool, because you have to get everything right ( hold, pull, follow through ) if you want to achieve good consistent groups. The fact that the effective range is measured in tens of yards rather than hundreds doesn't really matter for that purpose. Just make the target smaller Ammo prices for centrefire calibres in the UK are insane compared to the US. I roll my own or buy milsurp, but it's still an expensive pastime.
  21. My new best friends

Looks as if Umarex have greatly improved the quality of their air pistols since I last looked at one. The Sig 226 and Beretta 92 were tacky IMO. I hope you have a load of fun with them.
  22. Weapons dunces

I don't expect media people to know much about weapons ( except that they are inherently evil, unless maybe if they are being used by a government agency of course ) but every so often they get it so spectacularly wrong even I am amazed. I just watched a National Geographic documentary on the Scandinavian biker wars and the narrator is talking about the president of the 81 in Denmark being assassinated with a " military grade 9mm automatic weapon " just as the reconstruction shows some actor dressed up as a biker taking the shot with a bolt action Remington 700 PSS /facepalm I watched another National Geographic true crime thing the other day where a guy was killed by someone using a " silenced revolver " - 1) You can't silence a revolver 2) The gun shown in the reconstruction was a Colt 1911 semiauto. Without a silencer. /facepalm

That kind of barrel length on a blowback operated rimfire must reduce the available energy for cycling the bolt really dramatically. Absolute minimum legal length for a barrel here is 12 inches, but I like to cut them to my own minimum of 14 " so that the end user isn't running into cycling problems. I think he's done some very clever work to make the weapon cycle properly, I take my hat off to him. Obviously I know there are rimfire pistols, but they are designed to work with a short barrel right from the outset. Talking of rimfire pistols, before the handgun ban here I knew a guy who had a Vietnam era ex-US Special Forces Hi-Standard with a suppressor. I wish it could have talked, I bet it had some good stories to tell......poor thing was confiscated and melted down though.
  24. Weapons dunces

You are wrong on this one Al - suppressed rifles, even with supersonic ammo, have a lot of advantages :- 1) You don't need hearing protection when firing them in a hunting or target shooting situation 2) You get a significant reduction in recoil, which helps accuracy 3) If the can is properly made it has no effect on the accuracy other than to improve it, as in point #2. I was getting around 1 MOA from my PSS, which had a 16" barrel and a suppressor 4) If you are a military or law enforcement sniper then using a suppressor has the advantage of reducing the weapons muzzle flash to almost nothing, and although the bullet is supersonic the direction of the shot becomes very difficult for your threat to ascertain, which may help you stay alive or otherwise get the job done successfully 5) If you have a .22 rimfire for pest control subsonic ammo and a good can reduces the noise to almost nothing. On a semiauto like a 10\22 you'll hear the bolt cycling and that's about all. This is good because you don't get the police called to your location by some gun fearing wuss who thinks that a massacre is occuring I build suppressors and thread rifle barrels to accept them, so all in all it's a subject I'm pretty familiar with.......
  25. Weapons dunces

Ok, it's possible to silence a revolver if you have the knowledge and machinery to completely re-engineer the whole weapon Great link, thanks for that
