Did I install the game correctly? Sorry I'm REAL new.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well, I enrolled my pilot and a quick generated mission was generated (sorry) and I died FAST.

The mission was as French airman in a 12 v 12 spad or nieuport vs. fokker I's (I don't remember the plane names but I know it was 12 V 12 whatever that means)

Here's how I installed:

Installed CFS3 battle for europe 3.1 & 3.1a (no probs) on D:\ drive

Installed OFF in the same D:\ drive folder (Renamed OFF to distinguish it from CFS3)

Installed OFF superpatch & superpatch mini patch in the same D:\folder (OFF in other words)

I configured my Nvidia GTX 260 card also

As stated previously, the mission that generated was 12 v 12 spad vs. fokker I's or something like that

I flew, with very minimal viewing space btw (No graphics problems, the plane seemed to take up a large amount of viewing space)

I saw no planes in front of me but I got hit like a billion times with bullets (The mid screen display read: Fokker I hit you, Fokker I hit you, Fokker I hit you)

My screen went blank and brought me back to my created pilots page which stated that I had died

Can someone confirm OR deny that what happened to me was normal considering that of course it was a 12 v 12 (I assume that means 12 planes vs. 12 planes) mission

Incidentally, IF this was how long a pilot lived then I REALLY feel sad how these young men died (Man, I'm thinking WOW like immediate death :boredom:)

Thank you everyone & sorry for my long winded post

Hi Stefnuts,

It sounds like you've installed it correctly. The '[' and ']' keys will wind your viewpoint in and out (or out and in, can't remember which does what, as I've mapped them to my joystick). That should improve your field of view. I strongly recommend TrackIR, as the mucking about with hat switches and all that is a pain, and you simply need to be able to keep your eyes looking for those Huns/Tommies, rather than looking for keys. It's the best money you can spend (well, after buying OFF!), since it's so much more intuitive, and, besides, it's nice to lean out of the plane a bit and have a quick gander. SPADs, incidentally, have a terrible field of view - try some different aircraft. The Sopwith Triplane is excellent in that respect.

Frankly, I wouldn't bother with the 12 vs 12 dogfight that you've described from Quick Scenarios - too much like an invite to lose a pilot if you're new to the game. If you must then at least tick 'pilot never dies', unless you like creating pilots every 10 minutes! Far better is to fly via Quick Combat, as it offers you the chance to customise everything you can think of, more or less, including, importantly, skill levels of your opponents, what they're flying, how many of them, time of day and year, etc, etc. A far better way of introducing yourself to the aircraft of OFF, particularly as you can choose 'free flight' for an aircraft you've not flown before, so you don't have to learn about an aircraft's foibles (ie, the Alb DIII's habit of shedding wings, the Camel's torque reaction) whilst mixing it with the enemy.

When you've done QC for a bit, you'll be more than equipped to start a campaign. Do read the Survival In The Air (SIA) series of articles here on CombatAce. There's some good stuff to be picked up.

Right then: it's your round, Capt. Neophyte! Mine's a pint of Pendle Witch, thankyouverymuch.

Cheers,

Si
