How can i get a combat ship stay at fixed position

hello

 

i'm messing around with the Mission editor and as i want to simulate a beach assault on the anatolian map, i put some udaloy cruisers of the coast to cover the red landing (and during the cas mission in fact they do it ) but i faced a problem, as soon as they see my flight they move and i want them to stay fixed

 

i precise that i did put 0 in speed paramters and did not gave them any waypoint

add them as a specific target area, with a ActiveDate= and InactiveDate= maybe???

Perhaps this could work?

make a copy of the Udaloy, remove it's engine so they can't move.

ships placed in target areas, even in the Open Sea ™ don't move, as they're location is fixed in the Targes.ini (look at modern Darwin, Libya, and all the WW2 maps -- there's 'convoy stations' that the ships just sit there, waiting to be sunk)

 

That's why you can get away with only one model used for 'in port' or anti-ship missions. The only reason one would need to create an extra 'in port' version, is to remove the exhast smoke from the stacks, as sitting at dock, they obviously wouldn't be "making steam and under way"

it seems that only combat vessels do manoeuvers when attacked

 

that would make sense, as cargo ships, by default, don't have any weapons or sensors for them (well, there are some that do....)

 

what's needed would be an APA, LSD or LST, with it's self defense batteies

I haven't tested this extensively, but it seems like ships added in the targets.ini (i.e. as fixed objects) don't emit radar signals. They'll still shoot guns, and I'm pretty sure I've seen some of them launch (supposedly radar-guided) missiles. Is this an accepted thing or could there be something wrong on my end?

Nothing wrong on your end, unfortunately it's been like this quite a while..

Any object inserted using targets.ini, that has radar, (eg. specifically defined sam objects and ships), won't emit radar signals (at least they won't be registered on your RWR)

 

On the other hand, inserting these into the mission using the Mission Editor, they will work as expected..

Which is not a solution but at least they work in custom missions...

yes, they do emit ... take something with a TEWS*, and fly over some of ports with ships in it. You may see a "U", as some of them aren't in the RWR lists; OTH, the modified stock cargoship and tanker ini that come with many of my terrain mods use the Barlocks radar data , so you may sea "S" for search.

 

Fubar's mod of the SumnerFRAMs have working seach, track and fire control radars (they also show up!)

I'd be glad to be wrong on this Wrench..

I've tried it many times, a ship via the targets.ini will not register on my RWR.

Just now, i put in the new Ticonderoga class and flew on top with a TEWS capable aircraft... Got shotdown with a missile from the cruiser, no search radar or lock warning even came up on my RWR.

Are you definitely positive on this?

No, I must amend my prervious statement.

 

with the 1/11 patch, they were working (i remember this from testing the Iran/Irag terrain -- especially around the ports of Umm Qasar and Basra, Khoramshar and Busher) -even the vector on my IIRAF Phantoms showed the paint by the cargo ships.

 

However, post 5/11 patch, in testing an upgrade for Darwin, the docked ships -including the new TICO- no longer register. Even though they're pumping out SAMs like crazy (at least that works!!)

 

So, something got definately got broked. OTH, the landbased SAMs and radars and radar-equiped AAAs are still working! (even the specified HAWKs, AAA all use the generic term)
