Three Cheers for RAF_Louvert

Recommended Posts

Thanks to a timely nod from the above mentioned 'thoroughly decent fellow' , I have at last acquired a copy of 'High in the Empty Blue' (which I've been after for years but failed to find at an affordable figure) at a few pounds above the jacket price of the library copy I've renewed five times!.

Cheers Lou, that's made my Easter, if not my year.

I'm happier than a Prince in... ah, well, yes, leave it at that, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, know what I mean... etc'.

The good things come to those who treasure them. Congratulations, Dej - the book has found you.

Dej, that is wonderful! Glad you were able to claim that book for your very own and at the low starting price. Plus, it won't have to travel too far to find you.

Javito, that must be a new eBay listing, and nice to see that you've found it, (you were the next one on my list to start watching for a bargain-priced copy of HITEB). I see the seller will only ship to the US so that may keep the price down. However, while it is a very low starting number, it's unfortunate that someone has already bid on it. That usually results in a much higher final price. But I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Sir.

I have it set to inform me whenever it goes up for sale on Ebay, so even if I don't luck out this time I'm sure I'll get it eventually... just gotta keep at it

In my experience that eBay function tends to be a bit slow so it's worth doing a manual double check on a regular basis.

I work with Ebay like this:

I fix for myself the max. price I would pay for this item, and enter that price in my bid.

The bid will NOT go to that maximum now, but only raise about 50 Cent or 1 Euro per bidder.

If another person has bid a max. of 30,- Euro, and my maximum was 50,- Euro, the bid will still only raise to 31,- Euro.

If no other person bids, I'll get it for 31,- Euro now.

If anyone goes higher than my maximum of 50,- Euro, I lost it. But I never check again.

I only look in there again, when the time of the auction is over.

That way I cannot gamble, and I also save a lot of time and nerves.

HITEB arrived today. Was described as 'Very Good' but is in fact in near pristine condition. So I'm even happier. Yay! And a day off tomorrow to indulge in my very own copy. It's definitely one of those 'must haves'.

That is great Dej! Now, if you send an email to Alex he will, I am sure, send you a signed card you can place in the front of your new treasure Sir. He did that for me, and for JFM, and for many others no doubt. He is a very decent chap.

1 more day until my Ebay auction ends. I'm watching it like a hawk, still no bids since day 1 but I have no doubt some crafty fellows will show up in the last 10 seconds or so... I'll be ready! cool.gif

Good luck Javito, I hope you can get it for that opening price. If you do it will be the bargain supreme for that volume.

High in the Empty Blue arrived today. Dear god it's beautiful, I had no idea it was so... huge! And the cover art is just gorgeous. Oh man I can't wait to open up this baby.

p.s. Lou I did as you said with the dryer sheets on Flying Old Planes' smokey smell, worked like a charm. Now it smells actually rather nice heh.

Javito, you are going to thoroughly enjoy HITEB. And glad the dryer sheets did the trick.
