Slartibartfast 153 Posted July 18, 2011 Here we stand before the dawn Another flight for freedom Our foes await across the field In these skies of blue we live Blazing out of the sun they came Spandau's stuttering as they dived And a friend fell To his fiery death below Avenged him we did And sent him a flyer to drink with In these skies of blue where we die May we be remembered not for our courage But for what we did over those Flanders Fields In the time of war we flew In these Skies of Blue where we eternally fly Now altogether beneath the sky We are brothers no matter race or creed For we all flew those skies of Blue This was something I wrote on my ride home from England to Vienna... as I rode down through Germany as I sat for awhile under blue skies... Don't ask me where my inspiration came from because I know not naught on this... This humble work I dedicate to all the flyers of all nations who have lived and died and the ones to come this way in years to be... The work is mine it is not as good as Lou or Olham's work or many others but I wish to say something...

RAF_Louvert 101 Posted July 18, 2011 . Well done Slarti, I find your prose here has a fine, honest quality. Never compare your work to others, but only to the standards you yourself have set for it. Your voice is yours and yours alone Sir, it should never be an echo of anyone else's. You say you know not where the inspiration came from, and yet it came. Simply be thankful for it. A muse is a muse, we don't always need to know by what name it is called. Keep writing Slarti, and do so for no one but you. .

UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted July 18, 2011 ``I was very impressed by that Slarti...... I could just imagine, a flyer returning by Train to the Front after some leave, wondering if he would ever see our Green and pleasant land ever again!...or indeed, a song in the mess!! A++++ (as they say on ebay)
Olham 164 Posted July 18, 2011 Slarti, I can only fully ditto Lou's comment! It created strong pictures in me.
