Olham 164 Posted August 6, 2011 Such reports are interesting to read. This one, from 4 August 1920, shows that the Roland D.VI seems to have been better than the late Albatros versions. The test pilot compares her to the Fokker D.VII (!). http://www.internetmodeler.com/references/roland_dvib.pdf
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted August 6, 2011 . Very interesting reading Olham. Thanks for sharing. Now I will have to see if there are more such contemporary reports on that website. .
Hasse Wind 46 Posted August 6, 2011 Is this a hint to the devs?
33LIMA 972 Posted August 6, 2011 Nice find Olham! The assessment of the Roland in Gray and Thetford's 'German Aircraft of the First World War' is taken directly from that report; no wonder it got an order as a back-up for the DVII. There's a nice freeware DVI available for First Eagles/FE2:
Olham 164 Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Lou, please report, if you find more such stuff - had no time yet to check. Is this a hint to the devs? Naaaaaw, Hasse Wind, naw - not a hint. Just an idea, I'd say... - ... a good idea, yeah. In fact it would be a very good idea! They call this a hint, don't they? I guess it is one. LIMA, that Roland D.VI makes my mouth water and my pilot heart jump! One day we may have them in OFF, too. But not so soon, I'm afraid. Olham 164 Posted August 6, 2011 Just checked, but didn't find more references for WW1 craft there, Lou. But perhaps we should search for reports by test pilot Lieutenant Moriarty?
Olham 164 Posted August 6, 2011 Here is more from the craft on the website of Thomas Genth. (There is also more two-seater stuff for you, Hasse Wind). http://www.thomasgenth.de/html/lfg_roland_d_vi.html
Crossbones 1 Posted August 6, 2011 Great read. I have always loved the clean lines of this aircraft. Roland made some strange looking kites but this one they got right. It would be great addition to OFF! Crossbones
Hasse Wind 46 Posted August 7, 2011 Here is more from the craft on the website of Thomas Genth. (There is also more two-seater stuff for you, Hasse Wind). http://www.thomasgen...oland_d_vi.html Thanks, what a great site! I put it among my favourites. I'd love to have all those two-seaters in OFF some day, especially the early Albs and such.
