P51 Star Decal Problem

I have a PTO install for SF2 and am using some SF1 aircraft. I separate the TGA files from the Decals and rename the decals to reflect where the TGA files sit in the Decfal Folder. The problem I have been wrestling with is that the skins for Wolfs P-51D-30 Little Butch and Shomo worked out fine but I can't get the upper wing and lower wing Star.tga to show. The fuselage Star is fine it only impacts the wings.

 

 

I appreciate any help or if you need more info please let me know.

screenie please, and can you post the decals ini. I honestly don't recall those skins for Wolf's Mustang....

ok I figured u might need more info but I always hesitate with adding more the server. I not allowed to attached the decal.ini so I posted the enitre decal

ok, now we need to know WHICH version of the P-51D-30 lod you've got ... wolf created 3 versions, the later one is

 

P-51D30_v3.LOD

 

and is dated 10/14/2004

I know there were some changed implemented from the _V2 lod

 

try these positions:

that could be why all my 'stangs are using the V2lod ... i vaguely remember somehing being 'off' in the v3. And why I painted on the wing stars!

I don't think i't abandonware, and Wolf dosn't answer PMs either here or SIMHQ, so ....

 

I'll take the chance and here it is:

 

don't forget to change the pointer in the main ini.

The new lod worked added the stars as written but I wierd quirk in the tire occured. I will show you.

 

I have to save the time spent to correct problems is enormous. I don't know how you have the patience creating excellent models and helping people like me.

that skin is NOT for that lod, as V2 & V3 were remapped... probably for the original P-51D-30.lod.

We sure that skin is even FOR Wolf's mustang, and not the even older one?

 

best to not use that skin.

 

edit: check the main folder for the "Main_Tire.bmp"

ok ...reworked the thing.

 

throw out what you've got (the skin/decals), and use this pak below. All set up for SF2. I rewrote the decals ini, added the "shroud" decal for the exhausts; everything works for me. It's set for the _V2.lod

 

looking closer at the model, it's really showing it's age badly...

now....if you want to use the V3.lod, you'll need this pak:

it's got tweeked inis, so some of the v3 issuse were fixed. However ... for some reason none of the wing markings show (during my testing).

 

That's an easy fix, and I can just add them through the template, and shoot you the new skin. (in fact, it's already done, as I tested that too!)

 

The main problem is, it's just one dudes plane ... the game engine needs to see at least 18 different serials/ID numbers, i believe, for things to work properly. One of the reasons I do most things at squadron level (18-24 aircraft)

You have been busy - again. The WW2 models don't always get the attention they need so the establishment of a WW2 section for SF2 models is a great start. However, I can appreciate more now what it takes to upgrade some aircraft from SF1 to SF2. A lot of the SF1 aircraft and skin work fine have some quirks but itis workable.

I really think TW should contract with you and some others to create a WW2 expansion set or a separate (my choice) WW2 simulation as they did with First Eagles. The market is out there we just need a product and all the contracted personnel get a salary during construction and royalties for products sold. Everyone talks about creating jobs well here is one that would work. I have email TW never heard back from them.

well, I can sure use a job!!

 

if you want to use the shomo skin on the V3 lod, yous the zip attached. mind you, there is a small mis-map on the aft section of the stripe ... due to very slight mapping changes from the original first reales lod, to the V3. (you can see it on the pic ... aft of the canopy, the leading edge of the back stripe.) Personally, that stripe and star could easily be done as a decal ... but that's just me.

 

you'lll not the tire mismaping is also gone (although the rolling radi are way off...) Wing stars are painted on

 

if I ever get the templates finished for TK ... and figure out some of mapping ... that would be the way to go

Would you consider selling the copyrights of some of your models that you feel are finished to your standards instead of giving them away free. I understand in this economy a lot of people are hurting and losing jobs.

 

You have an amazing talent and could creat individual or packs like TW sells at it DLC store. Somebody must be making their models why not you for WW2 models which you have a enormous amount of material and knowledge.

 

A lot of us here on Combat Ace probably would be willing to pay as fair price for your work????? just a thought I mean the demad for SF2 compliant WW2 aircraft and terrains is out there just need a talented person or persons to fill the void.

 

OMG I sound like an Accountant whoops I am can't help thinking like one!!! Good thing I am retired!

Hi Wrench I just want to let you know that by using what you have taught me and making comparisons between the Undertaker and lil Butch aircraft I somehow managed to get lil butch to work using what you gave and shown me with the undertaker.

 

I realy feel good about this guess u can teach an old deog new tricks. My many thanks to you sir.

now here's better ...

 

the skin below will be uploaded over the next day or so for TK's Mustang (so make sure you have SF2I Expansion 1 for that one). Sorry, no nose arts -- I didn't feel like researching 50 airplanes and making more decals than I needed.

Although I'm quite sure, with the knows positions from the plane in group numbers, the distance forward could be sussed out

got all the expansions but North Atlantic not sure I am interested right now.
