Spinners Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Northrop F-5A 'Freedom Fighter' - Grupo 6 'Aggressor Flight', Fuerza Aérea Argentina, 1981 After seizing power in the Military coup d'état of March 1976, Orlando Ramón Agosti the Commander-in-Chief of the Fuerza Aérea Argentina declared that his air force was inadequate "to defend Argentina and succeed in it's aims" (a thinly-veiled reference to the Malvinas) and announced a modest expansion programme. In February 1977 16 F-5A's and 4 F-5B's were purchased from the Iranian Government and from June 1977 these started to re-equip Grupo 6 de Caza with four F-5A's equipping an Aggressor flight at Base Aerea Tandil in the Buenos Aires Province. 2
