pons Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 Hi, I have 2 problems: First, it takes a long time for the game to load after clicking "fly" It goes from 0 to 60% quite fast, but it hangs there for almost a minute. From 60 to 90% it takes about 25 seconds, and to 100% about 10 seconds. Is it a bug that will be addressed on the patch, or is there a change to be made somewhere? Second, mapping the views to the POV hat makes the "cockpit" move to. That is that when I pull on the stick, the aiming reticle moves to the top of the 'pit. Is there a way to fix this through the INI file? How can it be done? Thank you all sebastian pons Quote
BirdDogg Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 I believe the load times are going to be address with the patch (I hope). but yes, it happens to me also, just like you stated. As far as the key mapping goes, wait a little bit and FastEagle, Ranger or one of the other members from the board here will more than likely address that one for ya real soon. I know, I know, not much in the way of help, but the patch will be out next tuesday th 21st BirdDogg. Quote
pons Posted January 16, 2003 Author Posted January 16, 2003 Thank you BirdDogg, I guess I'll have to wait then... sebastian pons Quote

As for the loading time, this will be addressed in the patch, but I'm sure has to do with system speed as well. I go to 60% in a second then wait for 5 seconds to get to 80%, then another 5 till I'm in the game mapping the views to the POV hat makes the "cockpit"move to. pons Posted January 16, 2003 Author Posted January 16, 2003 Thank you. Now what am I suposed to do with the file? Shall I copy and paste to the C:Program FilesStrategy FirstStrike FightersControls folder to overwrite a similar one there? sebastian pons Quote
*Fast Eagle* Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 You can do this but make sure to back the original file up!!!! What joystick are you using?? Quote
*Fast Eagle* Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 you can also print it out and type in the lines you need to use for the views as some of the entries are set up for a MS joystick Quote
pons Posted January 16, 2003 Author Posted January 16, 2003 Hi, I use a Logitech WingMan Digital 3D. What lines would you think are relevant? I'll have to sign off now, will check again tomorrow (my time :D ) sebastian pons Quote
Guest Ranger332 Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 what your system setuo your ox ram and the like Quote
pons Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 Hello Ranger332, here are my specs: Win98se AMD K6 (PII) MX 3D NOW 500MHz 128 RAM GeForce 2 MX 100/200 32MB Trident sound card IE5.5 DirectX 8.1 I know it's on the border, but when playing it doesn't jump too much. Of course there is not telling what will happen postpatch with the rockets contails and such... sebastian pons Quote
Guest Ranger332 Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 0k reduce your resalution setting to minimal 800x600 or 640x480 (what ever the lowest your monator/vid card will go and try it then may not be as nice but should speed things up a bit Quote
pons Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 Ranger332, the problem is the loading time from clicking "fly" to actually starting playing, I'm talking about the bar that measures the percentage of game loaded. I already reduced to 800/600, off mirrors and shadows, etc... Thank you for your post sebastian pons Quote
Guest Ranger332 Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 try 640x480 and reduce the tasking of your vid card anti-lasing off and the like the loadup can be effected by how much your "asking" the pc to do the higher the rez the more asked of the vid and the slower the processor the longer the loadup Quote
pons Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 Thank you Ranger332, I wasn't aware of the conexion. Any advice on my first question? sebastian pons Quote

*Fast Eagle* Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 I was having the same loadup issue at 640x480x32 now I run at 1024x768x16 now noone is jumpy in the game and load up time is considerably less Quote
*Fast Eagle* Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 what I did forget to mention was that I disabled the joysticks profile and just used the in game setup for controls Quote
Guest Ranger332 Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 1024x768x32 my loadup is now bout 15secs Quote
pons Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 And now I'm lost. Are you talking about ingame resolutions or desktop resolution. Because as I understand it, the less the ingame resolution the less jumpy the display will be, or I'm missing something here? sebastian pons Quote
Target Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 I run my game at 1024x768, and depending on how big the mission is (how many objects must be loaded up) it can take my machine about as long as it takes yours. What I'm saying is that at this resolution I don't think your suffering any sort of abnormality, I think its just the game. I find the wait worth it for the higher resolution. Of course I haven't tried it at any other resolution. As for views, my stick is set up so that my hat operates the camera. Actually this is accomplished much the same way as Fast Eagle described, through the file system. I find it pans nice, smooth and quick. This is my preferrence, outside of Trackir. If you're interested I'll post a copy of the file commands to set your game up this way. Bear in mind I would copy and paste the original cfg file somewhere and rename it. I didn't rename mine once and the game found it in my documents desktop folder and defaulted to it. Smart little bugger. Quote
pons Posted January 19, 2003 Author Posted January 19, 2003 Yes Target, I'd be grateful if you could help me, but you'll have to explain it step by step... Thank you in advance sebastian pons Quote
Target Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 OK Pons, I'll give you ALL the steps, since I don't know how much or little you know. Don't take it the wrong way if I sound like I don't think you know anything, because I don't know what you do or do not know. Nothing for granted, and no offense meant. You probably know way more than I do. That said, we begin. I find the best way to get into my file system is through windows explorer. Its under program/accessories, and I use it so much I have a shortcut to it on my desktop. The path I take is C:programsStrategy firstStrikefighters. This is the default path as the game sets it up. Once into the Strike Fighters folder you want to go into the control folder. Within the Control folder you'll find the game's "Default Configuration Settings" file. You want to backup this folder. Easiest way to do this is to highlight the config folder, copy it, and paste it somewhere where you can find it (like in your My Documents folder on your desktop). Rename the config folder you just copied. I think I renamed mine "original" or something to that effect. Now go back into the game control folder where your original config folder is and open it up (the Default Configuration Settings folder). Scroll down the list until you come to the Camera control commands. There are 8 lines starting with "camera_pitch_up" and ending with "camera_yaw_axis". Highlight that section and cut it out. Then replace it with these commands which I have copied right out of my setup. CAMERA_PITCH_UP=JOYSTICK01_POV01_UP CAMERA_PITCH_DOWN=JOYSTICK01_POV01_DOWN CAMERA_YAW_RIGHT=JOYSTICK01_POV01_RIGHT CAMERA_YAW_LEFT=JOYSTICK01_POV01_LEFT CAMERA_ZOOM_IN=NUMPADPLUS CAMERA_ZOOM_OUT=MOUSE_BUTTON02 CAMERA_PITCH_AXIS=JOYSTICK01_POV01_UP CAMERA_YAW_AXIS=JOYSTICK01_POV01_RIGHT I'm not sure, but I think you may be able to copy right off this board just as they appear and paste them directly into the config folder. At any rate, the order must be maintained, in the same spot as the commands just cut out, and with ALL the t's crossed and i's dotted. Just as you see it. If it doesn't work, go back to your original config folder and drag it back to its original place. You might have to replace the original name , "Default Configuration Settings". My stick is a TM Topgun Afterburner and I find these settings do me well. I don't know if they will work with every stick, but the hat pan is the best I've come across. If you have any further question before you start, feel free to ask. I took it for granted (though I said I wouldn't) you do know how to cut and paste, if not, I'll let you in on the secret. I didn't always know how to do it either. :D Let me know how you made out. These commands came to me via a good soul at simhq, yes there are a few over there, and in no way reflect any talent, cleverness or intelligence on my part. I was a hatch recruit but never a scientist. Quote
pons Posted January 19, 2003 Author Posted January 19, 2003 Thank you Target for your help. I don't take offense easily, and less when I'm asking for help. I always assume that the other part (the helper) knows more than I do, otherwise I'd be the one telling you what to do and how.... Anyway, I printed your instructions and I'll try it tomorrow. It's late night here and unfortunately I have to work in the morning :( I'll post results as soon as I have flown a couple of times. Thank you again sebastian pons Quote
pons Posted January 20, 2003 Author Posted January 20, 2003 Hello Target, couldn't fly because of CDT several times. I'm sure is windows related rather than modifications made, but I've decided to wait for the patch (1 day!) Thank you for your help sebastian pons Quote
