Olham Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 No one mentioned this news from yesterday yet: a meteor came down in Russia. The sonic bang smashed hundreds of windows. Also - although it had nothing to do with the meteor - an asteroid with a length of 50 Meter passed planet Earth in a distance of only 28.000 Kilometers. The distance Moon - Earth is 356.000 - 406.000 Kilometers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHoy12qY4bU

Flyby PC Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 It's strange, but what do you say? Nobody to blame, no precautions to be taken, just raw fate, and extraordinary bad luck for those people affected. It could have been any of us. Makes you reaslise just how dangerous it is to have nuclear weapons on standby. Seeing that, you'd think you were under attack rather than watching a meteor.
Hasse Wind Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 There's already a thread on this topic, so I'm going to close this one.
Hauksbee Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Just sneaking in a last footnote: I see there is now a Russian cottage industry in searching out meteor fragments, which sell at 40x the price of gold.
