Terrain Editor crashes...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to do my first terrain and as anything new you do the first time....lots of problems appear.

The problem is that when I choose the option to "Autotexture" the editor crashes... at W7 or XP. Any idea?

By the way:

The import of the DEN file went ok, and when I open the tileset list too, I'm using the stock desert textures.

Thank you guys

that's odd.

I've never had a problem with autotexture, other than it never gets it right.

can you outline your steps, from DEM importation to the crash??

Yes for sure.

1-New Terrain , size  1000 Km  resolution 2000 X 500

2-Coordinates 20 W 10 N with map scale 100%

3-Open de DEN file with no problems

4-Open Texture list

5-I open the Texture List Terrain, using the stock one that gives us the Editor, in my case " TextureListDesert" that I've saved at the same folder where I have the.bmp files

6-Viex texture Tile (All is purple and as far as I know this is normal)

7-I go to autotexture.... It works and when it reaches the 100% Windows says: The program does not respond...at it crashes...

ok. yeah,

I've seen that before. I don't know what causes it.

are you using the 'desert' TE or the WoE/V/I TE??

What I did long ago, is STOPPED using the desert TE, and built a 'WOE_DEsert_TE', using the later, but with all the desert bits.

maybe give that a try? Simply make a new TE folder with just the desert bmps, inis, etc, but using the later (slightly) more better one.

(you can see I make separate ones for which terrain needs one. I find it less confusing, and can configure and build them exactly as I want. Also, haven't cleaned out the finished ones yet either! -- as is zipped and stored on the backup drives)

If you want to make a terrain on base of the Desert.cat then you must use the old version of TE. For WOE,WOV, WOI based terrains you must use the new version of TE.

no you don't!!!

it don't care what tile set is being used, as long as it's TOLD what tile set is being used.  The last 3 or 4 terrains I've done with 'desert-named tiles' (including your Persian gulf rebuild) were done in the WoE TE.

It works just fine! Trust me brother!!

if you want to try it, I'll send you my desert-centric WoE TE. You'll have to replace the tiles in the base folder, as iirc, they're not the stock ones

I've been able to make it work (at least autotexture) ... and  I'm still playing with the editor getting use to it. If for any reason I don't get correct things or tileset give more problems I will ask you for it Wrench. Thank you very much for your valuable help.

any time!

mine also has the 'cheater' tiles -- with the painted edges for perfect alignments!

The editor does not recognise the desert texture list I have to create it manually and the resulting autotexture is horrible.... So I'd like to try the one you have metion me before. I've sent you a PM with my an e-mail. Thanks again
