Finland always purchased evenly from NATO and the Warsaw Pact. They intended to purchase both F-18 Hornets and MiG 29 Fulcrums in order to keep the balance. It is however unclear if they had been allowed to purchase Hornets if the Soviet Union had still been a major power. Both Viggens and Gripens was an alternative to the Hornets had the deal been denied. Edited July 19, 2014 by JonathanRL Quote
Centurion-1 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Looks cool, gotta wonder what it would look like in a camo set-up like the MiG-21bis or Draken? I love the Fulcrum, but in retrospect, I am glad the FAF got the F-18 instead. The only upside to a Fulcrum buy is that they probably could have gotten a lot more of them... but by now they would need costly upgrades to SMT or M2 standard to keep up! Quote
