nstutt 1 Posted February 29, 2016 Has anyone found a way of changing this in the Strike Fighters games to allow continuing a campaign if your pilot dies? I know you can always re-fly the same mission again and I suppose you could quit the mission on starting in order to sort of simulate failing that mission. But of course anything that did happen like planes being shot down etc would not happen then. I was wondering if there was a way that anyone has found of perhaps enabling you to take over another pilot or to cheat death? Surely there must be some setting somewhere??? This was the best thing about Falcon 4 the way you could die and yet still continue the campaign albeit with less pilots and planes. Would be great if this was enabled in the Thirdwire games as well! Its really the only thing I dont like much in their games. Its a real bore to have to fly the same mission again and if you die again to have to fly it a third time! You just get nowhere. Especially with the fact its so easy to instantly die with just one shot or one missile hit. Anyone?
+1977Frenchie 1,038 Posted February 29, 2016 Don't want to be bullish, but this is called realism :) I don't think it is possible to achieve this in SF2 and never got interested in it. It sucks to be KIA, but hey it happens in real life... What i like to do is kind of a career. Let's say i'm in the USN and i start with the oldest campaign and move on to the newer one's. I might make it, or not in the process :) My last to date : USN, started as an Ensign in the Korean Theater ''Career'' done : - Korea F4U 64 missions MIA - Burning Sands A-1H 5 missions Campaign ended - Rolling Thunder (A) A-4B 31 missions Campaign ended - Rolling Thunder (B) A-4B 26 missions MIA - Northern Sabre (69) F-4B 4 missions KIA With the promotion process changed to my liking, when i've been KIA i held the rank of Commander on my 130th mission... Was sad to see this pilot die (more due to the fact it was a friendly fire, thanks Wingman for shooting an AIM-9 in my plane:)), but now i will start a new one and do the whole process again!
jeanba 1,920 Posted February 29, 2016 I basically agree, dead is dead is most fun. What can be acceptable is that if you die, you can play as another member of your squadron (loosing all your experience)
TeargasHorse 287 Posted February 29, 2016 There was another game that let you switch, I think 1942: The Pacific Air War where you could take over any plane during the mission. Unfortunately SF has Dead, or Re-fly only. I use a die to decide, even= re-fly, odd=screw the pooch. The one thing about creating new pilots, though, is that you are always the lead, never a sub, like in IL-2. If you're re-flying a mission over and over and dying everytime, you aren't learning from your mistakes; change the route, or add SEAD/Escorts to your group, loiter at a way point and let them take the heat, then dash in, hit the target and get out, or take a fail and move to the next mission, your job is to survive. Good luck!
BlitzGreek 34 Posted February 29, 2016 I don't know if happened to someone else also but i remember a campaign flying as a mercenary that after i was shot down and successfully ejected i was able to continue.Although i lost the plane and had to pay for another still i could go on..i noticed that i ejected in friendly controlled territory. Generally i agree ,death is death and MIA is MIA and i always start as a new pilot ...(i have a good imagination for call signs)
jeanba 1,920 Posted February 29, 2016 It happens to me occaionnally too

If you bail out over friendly territory, there is great chances that you will be able to continue as you will not be MIA or POW. You might get KIA anyway if your plane is on fire completely and you bail mere seconds before plane explode. It happens to me numerous times

Well I never last that long - usually 5 or so missions and I'm dead. It does mean you rarely see the campaign progress all the way through. And I have never appreciated sims where 'realism' affects fun and gameplay, never have. But of course there are many things that are not 'realistic' in SF2, this would simply be another. I guess seeing as development has ended on these sims its unlikely to ever be done though, unless they ever do a Kickstarter for a new game anyway.
