MigBuster 2,884 Posted July 1, 2016 Anniversary of the Somme...........a battle my dads dad fought in and never really got much information on it other than he was in the battle. On day 1 over 19,000 dead and around 57,000 casualties on the British side only, doesn't bear thinking about. Silly but this comedy ending had one of the best tributes to the WW1 fallen IMO

Olham 164 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) What a simple - but overwhelming - idea! Bringing up emotions without rattling sabres or mourning recitations of sad poems... Edited July 1, 2016 by Olham
MigBuster 2,884 Posted July 2, 2016 'Know anything about these lads, Simon? Are they, perhaps WWI re-enactors? Artists behind 'ghost soldiers' project revealed National Theatre head Rufus Norris and artist Jeremy Deller were behind a Somme commemoration project with men dressed as World War One soldiers. The "modern memorial" involved about 1,500 voluntary participants appearing in public spaces across the UK. Photos and reactions to the project quickly spread across social media, connected by the #wearehere hashtag. Each carried a card with the name of the soldier they represented and his age - if known - when he died. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36682140
UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted July 2, 2016 'Know anything about these lads, Simon? Are they, perhaps WWI re-enactors? Not 100% sure..but they're known as the Ghost Soldiers, and have appeared in towns and cities all over the UK...amazing!
