MigBuster 2,884 Posted July 1, 2016 Anniversary of the Somme...........a battle my dads dad fought in and never really got much information on it other than he was in the battle. On day 1 over 19,000 dead and around 57,000 casualties on the British side only, doesn't bear thinking about. Artists behind 'ghost soldiers' project revealed National Theatre head Rufus Norris and artist Jeremy Deller were behind a Somme commemoration project with men dressed as World War One soldiers. The "modern memorial" involved about 1,500 voluntary participants appearing in public spaces across the UK. Photos and reactions to the project quickly spread across social media, connected by the #wearehere hashtag.
