Can anyone explain how to add ships to the SF 1 game as I have downloaded a couple of ships and placed them in the Ground Objects folder (as per instructions) but only a few of them have turned up in the game after numerous attempts over a couple days of Anti-Ship missions.

Do I need to actually list these new vessels as targets on each map to get them to appear in the game as targets and if so, how do I do that.

Thanks in advance for any help or assistance.

I'm pretty sure in SF1 you will need to add them to scripted missions or replace the cargo ship with one ....ships really are only fully implemented in SF2 NA. otherwise they are rather limited. maybe can be added as escorts in WOV but they are very limited in the early games.

the first question should be:

what KIND of ships???

warships? cargo vessels (ie: all civilian shipping)???

both series 1 & 2 will generate convoys of ships (for A-S missions) only from those with a GroundObjectRole= CargoShip.

Warships won't show up.

And there's some random oddities that seem to favor one type over another, usually based on what/which appears first in the GO listings.

Thanks for the reply Wrench.

Generally speaking I was looking to introduce Warships as targets, but judging from your reply that don't appear to be possible.

I have placed the downloaded warships as per instructions in the Ground Objects folder but they never appear in the game in a moving convoy, but show up mostly as static Ground objects.

that's because you're using a 1stGen game. Naval battle groups WILL generate in SF2, when SF2:North Atlantic as part of the merged install.

Otherwise, you'll have to find a way to build scripted missions with the various Surface Action Groups assembled (read: hand built).

OTH, you can create "clones" of warships labeled as "CARGOSHIP", but that also caused a shit load of issues. Wev'e been doing that for many, many years. But, like i said, does cause issue (in both SF and SF2)
