automovili Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 I'm currently working on a campaign set on Gepard's Kuril Islands with the Japan Air Self-Defence Forces against the Soviet Air Defence Forces PVO in 1989 (F-4EJ Kai f- yeah!). I'm a total noob in modding and simply just edited an already existing campaign to fit the map (bases and stuff) I was just wondering how would the end condition work for such a pure air warfare set up? I know Naval campaign the main enemy carrier must be sunk, or how the ground invasion mechanic works but I'm unfamiliar as to how this kind of campaign works? Thanks in advance. I'm eventually planning to add a U.S carrier strike force but right now I'm too lazy to make proper research on what certain USN carriers, escort ships and squadrons were available at the timeframe, and I just want to enjoy a pure japanese campaign. +daddyairplanes Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 that i recall, you gotta have some ground stuff. they can be small and totally ineffectual, but there has to be a ground (or naval) campaign for the air war to influence. 1 Quote
Blade Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 You can have a purely air-to-air campaign (just take a look at the stock Linebacker I-II campaigns). The campaign ends if: You get killed. Your squadron runs out of aircraft. The number of missions flown reaches the value defined by the ‘MaxMissions’ entry. The only outcome is a stall in this case (meaning the campaign cannot be lost or won). 3 Quote

For your future use, Midway was forward deployed in Japan at the time. Nimitz, Carl Vinson, and Constellation all made deployments to the North Pacific during 1989. 1 Quote

Now I just have to focus on the Carrier Air Wings, I'm sure they are well documented only problem if certain Carrier Air Wing squadrons are not represented in the download section but I'm sure I could do a little bit of creative license there. cheers! Viggen Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 http://www.gonavy.jp/ is a very good source for finding information on historic CVW deployments and assignments. For instance, here's Constellation's air wings throughout her history http://www.gonavy.jp/CV-CV64f.html 1 Quote

automovili Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 Testing Carrier missions. Royal Australian Navy 2 Quote
automovili Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 More 1979 scenario test using the resources provided by Viggen that made the whole thing immensely easier. Just got delayed cuz new job but I really want to see this completed with as few bugs as possible for an optimal experience. It will serve as the template for the 1989 scenario initially planned. (sadly i'm starting to like the '79 scenario cuz more Aircraft variety and Royal Australian Navy aircraft carrier lol!) 2 Quote
