  1. Ghostrider Can you clarify your post? Who is your post directed to? I don't understand what morality has to do with freeware models. I'm not sure I understand who you're referring to when you elude to individuals and groups as "so-called...". If you want to shed some light on your toothy response to an already sore subject I'm sure we can work towards answering your concerns, at least attempt to. Regards; Erik
  2. Happy Birthday To........

S! Here here and much more! Congrats sir! Erik
  3. If I insinuated that freeware is freeloading I apologize as that was never my point. My point is that the word "freeware" gets used in direct opposition to "payware" but what gets overlooked is that each have expenses related to them. The difference between the two really is who absorbs the expenses or to what extent. I would suggest that in the following conditions it might look like this: 1. FREEWARE A) Costs are all paid by the developer. B) Costs are shared - Production and support paid by developer - Distribution paid by other providers (CA, AVSIM, etc). 2. PAYWARE A) Costs are paid by the end user - break even. B) Costs are somewhat paid by the end user - shared expense. C) Costs are overpaid and a profit is realized - profitable. So when we're talking about the different segments of the community, "freeware" versus "payware", it's not the product that's changed but the want or need of the developer to produce and in what atmosphere. Would that be a fair statement? I haven't heard of anyone making a killing or retiring a millionaire from modding so it's logical to me that the most gained from payware is the support of the product itself (ie production, distribution, support, etc). I seriously doubt that 2C above is ever realized or seen. Most in the community choose to release under 1A and 1B above but I don't think we can demand that all modders must use a "freeware" production style. I believe how they choose to be part of this community is up to them and most I would believe base that on the ability to either be able to support what he does for everyone or not. So my point simply put is that support and appreciation of one is really the same as support and appreciation for both. I appreciate everyone who gives to this community and in any capacity they see fit. Be it responding to posts on various forums, developing a new model, a new skin, campaign, or changing the flight dynamics in an ini. Support and appreciation comes in many forms and the more of it we have the more people enjoy being part of it. My thoughts for what they're worth. Erik
  4. From my humble perspective there is no such thing as "freeware". There are always production and distribution costs. Someone is paying even if it's not the end user. We all should try and re-think the definition of "freeware" because to me it's all "payware". Some folks just ask others to help support their expenses and I see nothing wrong with that at all. A supportive community wouldn't hesitate at the opportunity to help out with the expenses. So why aren't we out promoting any new addition to the community? Dave is absolutely correct. Our position here is to support the entire community with it's many diversified individuals that do so much to continue their support for the enjoyment of others, "payware" or otherwise. Before we are critical of anyone offering continued life to an otherwise "as is" packaged past time I think we should consider what would happen if all the "freeware" or "payware" additions just stopped. I'll lay wager that the vocal tendencies would soon switch to, "where are all the new mods at?" Be thankful, be understanding, and most of all be supportive. Erik

Some question I have are: 1. Can Portuguese and Spanish be combined? 2. Do we have any others members who can help out with the other languages above? Thanks for help I'm looking forward to getting these forums in place to expand our reach to members. Erik
  7. We need you.

Looks like we have the beginning of something great. Anyone read and write another language other than English? Also let us know which languages you think would be nice to have here. Erik

  9. Whirlwind over Vietnam..

I think your above review was just perfect ... maybe we should publish it?

  11. NEWS OF THE WEIRD!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18522292/ ... and this one which is well One noteable mention from the article is that it was a chilly morning ... can't imagine that the US photographer has a perky sense of humor. Good stuff.

The reason I'm looking to expand into different languages is that a large portion of our traffic originates from outside North America. I can't help but think that so many of our community members have a wealth of talent to share that they can't or don't. I'd like to develop forums specifically to make these members feel more at home. What would be the major languages you'd consider?
  13. We need you.

    Excellent!
  14. We need you.

Since we are looking for guys to run and help in foreign language forums you'd need to read and write fluently in a language. We still good for Russian?

... no aux generator running off the PTO starboard? You fly for TED don't you? LOL
  18. The AIM 9B was a mid to late 50's lead sulphide photo cell seeker. The main problem with accuracy is that the seeker was designed for for IR rad detection most affective against non moving targets. Another big draw back in the 9B is that it was very sensitive to passive reflection from the sun. The best thing that the 9B offered were the variants it gave birth to including the 9D which in turn gave birth (read: started the family line) to the 9X series. As you know the 9X is pure fury in a can you don't ever want to be on the receiving end of.

... ok so I have to ask Let's say the left engine quits for any reason does that mean your off the clock?
  20. We need you.

The problem with asking for help in English is that maybe the guys you want help from don't read or write English. How come I feel like I'm stuck in an oxymoron ... sorta like congress and progress. Oh well, hopefully we'll find some guys to help us out. 谢谢, Dank u, Merci, Danke, Σας ευχαριστούμε, Grazie, ありがとう, 너를 감사하십시요, Obrigado, Вы, Gracias Erik

Don't forget that Saywhat?! speaks Australian too. We've almost got it.
  22. We need you.

I thought for sure we'd have some German, French, and Russian speakers among us.

  24. Done Deal!

One of the reasons we added the Mirror Box here at CombatACE was to make sure we always had two copies of everything in two physically different locations. The chances of both machines crashing at the same time are very very remote. We may not look like much on the outside ... but under the hood we got it where it counts. Erik
  25. Happy Birthday too
