Ips Driver Error Message
Erik replied to Atreides's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Yep ... I'm on it ... it's not pretty but we'll get there. -
I believe this is now fixed. :)

With the new year upon us we'll be taking some time in this upcoming week to make some well deserved upgrades to our site's software. You may experience some down time or slow load times during our transition. Please forgive us for the dust during the renovations. We're sure you'll enjoy the new enhancements. Happy New Year from all of us here at CombatACE.com.

I fixed it this morning when I logged in ... our skins needed to be rebuilt ... fairly simple but wanted to make sure that I fixed it for everyone. Erik

Still see it?

Start > Run > Type in "dxdiag" > hit enter ... check to make sure you don't have an directx issues and drivers are all windows compliant. Could be the way open GL is handled on your machine as well. That's in the ATI panel. You'll be able to see any errors there by clicking through the tabs. Also might check your screen resolution and possibly what you have the game set up to run. If the game wants a resolution your system won't handle that might cause an issue. I'd suspect a video issue or video related, but it could be video memory or system memory. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Erik

New Winter Terrain from Tridyed Production
Erik replied to Firecage's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
one could suggest that the reflection of the blue sky is casting the hue on the snow slash ice cover ... lol -
I can reproduce the problem but I fear it's browser behavior that's to fault not the site. What's actually happening is the page loads and shows the last post like it should. Then if the thread has pics in it the browser loads the pics starting with the last one first. The browser then repages itself to the last image it loads which is usually the first one in the thread. Fairly annoying behavior I'm not sure can be designed around as I don't know of a way to tell the browser to load the images first. Now the good news is that if the images are already cached by the browser (read: you've viewed the post recently) then the page loads the last post fine as there's no need for the images to download they incorporate into the page just like text. Erik

Yup that's what their supposed to do and I haven't noticed a problem with it, however now that you mention I'll take a peek when I have some posts I've not read available with images in them to see if I can duplicate the problem. Thanks for the report, I'll advise. Regards; Erik
-
Not sure I'm following you on this. The only place this option is available is in your personal assistant. It has always worked for me regardless of images being present in the post. The way it does work is transfer you to the thread not necessarily the last post in that thread. I guess I can see that point, but that's its function. Let me know if I'm missing something. Your OS and browser are compliant with our boards, they are not an issue. Regards; Erik

Tailspin - Indio; I understand your frustration ... the goal I'd like to provide is keeping the communication open and flowing. If I can do that we all win because it's obvious with the passion you both share nothing but good can come from it. All is well that ends well, thanks to the both of you for the help. Take care; -

Tailspin; I'm not following how that post helps this thread and am asking myself why it doesn't meet the same fate at the earlier post, any ideas? Thanks for the help; -

Indio One thing I haven't quite got my head around is why this discussion isn't posed on the forums where TK or Thirdwire can reply. It seems to me that the best possible response you can hope for on our forums will be third hand information. If TK or any developer has a support forum it's there I'd be looking for answers like mission statements and such. From my perspective this has the ugly nature of talking behind someone's back, and it's something I'd prefer to stay miles away from. As to the points you raise, they are valid, but it seems that only the designer can answer why something was included or wasn't and if something is possible or isn't. Also thank you for the change of tone in your last post. It's leaps ahead towards a common working ground we all can relate to without being insulting. Regards; -

There will always be extremists ... those that want to feel the actual pain of being shot up during air to air combat so that their wives find them slumped over in their computer chair only to utter with their last breath, "now that's realism!" There will always be historians ... those that fought in or have researched the conditions of flying and fighting during these times who remark that the canopy lock lever was 2 cm lower and aft of its current design. And that coming back in one piece from a mission with your rusted bucket of bolts and throwing the canopy open while taxiing back to the line all while hearing the cheers of your squadron was often the best feeling you had, so why didn't you design that into the game play? There will always be gamers ... those that want story lines and a design elements that keep you playing. What good would a movie, book, or game be without a plot? I suppose that's why all of us choose to play these types of games instead of board games where there is no story line or plot to be had. Heck I can't even remember what the character's name (Mr. Monopoly) is that's seen on all the Monopoly games around the World, can you? I wonder if there are communities of Monopoly players who think $1500.00 rent on Park Avenue is rediculous? Listening to them proclaim, "you can't even get a card-board box on 192nd for that!" Our community is rich with all types and even more than have been mentioned. Yet we often forget that we have only a select few who actually build the games, add-on aircraft, scenery, etc., etc., to fulfill the needs, wants, and desires of so many. I would offer that if we elected to come together and help build something with constructive criticism and support that things will and can get better for everyone. I bet if we asked the developers and designers how often they get offers of help like, "hey I'll do the 400 hours of research and 200 hours of prep work then write your POH so it's as exact as possible for a 60 year old aircraft." that we'll almost without hesitation hear them all say, "that just never happens." I fear we often miss the mark when it comes to our complaints. People are far too eager to complain and get upset at developers and designers. It's seen all over our community from payware to freeware, and folks if we don't proactively make a concerted effort to change and get involved for the good we're going to see this all die on the design table. If we maintain this type of ill-support mentality what you'll find is that those folks will loose their drive and need to design and develop. Then what you'll be left complaining about is why everyone has stopped supporting your community. Which would leave places like CombatACE, SIMHQ, AVSIM, and others wondering why they continue to support communities with no releases but with lots of unhappy community members. My point is that while you've thrown down your hard earned money, or not, for these releases that you keep in the back of your mind that your support (read: money you've paid) of our community is for it's continued health. It's payment for the research and development that it's going to take to get us to the next sim that with hopes will be more realistic, modeled better, or have more game interaction and story line. It's the part we all play to help the community grow and be stronger and it's the very last thing I'll complain about. Especially when I spend more money taking the wife and kids to McDonalds for grease and bread. Perspective and opinion are powerful tools you've each been given, please use them wisely. Get involved ... I applaud you! Just remember to keep your eyes on winning the war, not the battle. -

Yeah ... check the security settings in your browser ... more than likely images are turned off, your security settings are too high, or we need to be moved into a more trusted zone than "internet or unkown sites". Just some clues where to start looking. Erik -
It would be almost impossible to harvest email accounts from our site. The only way I could think of would be for our database to be compromised, but that hasn't happened. Now that I think about it, not only would the harvester have to have control of our database but they'd have to have control of the only valid access point which would be the server and I know that hasn't happened. I'd say things here are as safe as they get on the internet and you can guarantee our goal is to continue to provide with a safe pleasant atmosphere at CombatACE. Take care; Erik

First thoughts off the cuff sort of thing: 1. START > RUN > Type in "DXDIAG" > Press Enter - Does DXDIAG report any display problems or driver problems? 2. Have you updated DirectX? 3. Might try a re-install of DirectX. DirectX 4. I see that your WOV display is set at 16 bit color will WOV not support 32 bit color? Curious at best. 5. Is WOV patched and updated? 6. Is WOV the only place you experience this problem? 7. Have you tried re-installing the software (note: safe all your valuable stuff before re-installing any software)? With any luck someone here might know exactly where to point you, but that's my offering. Regards; Erik -
Twenty what? I so remember those days. :: dejected look of loathing :: CONGRATS! We're all wishing you many many many more. Erik

I did not punish you. You still have full access. What gives you that impression? I removed a potentially flammable topic, so I wouldn't have to moderate any group or person. I respect our community and it's diverse background of individuals. It is what allows us to remain a non-violatile place where everyone can discuss issues that relate to our purpose. Those topics that offer to take us down roads with no benefit, incite members or views, or elicite discussion that ultimately has no place here have and will meet the same fate. As I mentioned before it is not personal and it is my position to make sure it remains that way for everyone. Regards; Erik Thompson
